That means all tactical airdefence units that protect military units in battle during war are turned to strategic roles and this is a bad and good thing at the same time.

Why is it a bad thing?

Technically, are Passive ESM systems actually radars? For it to be a radar, I would think it would have to actually send out radio waves and not just receive them.

They are Passive Radars. They can get position of a target Air Plane if it switches on Radar.

Also some passive radars can get apprixmate target location for low flying targets using existing TV, radio signals emitted from ground staions
it's time to nut up or shut up!

They sure can. Also a Radar can emit low frequency signal (like TV and radio). That would make it Nebo SVU class of low frequency Active Radar. And Low Frequency Electromagnetic Waves do allow Radar to see Stealth Aircrafts. Making Nebo SVU a very useful Radar.

First and second images are Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) (phased array) radar of "Ballistic Missile Early Warning System" in RAF Fylingdales  of USA.

The third image has taken during inauguration of some space projects last year that seems uses similar technology of AESA radar of US in RAF Fylingdales. Range of RAF Fylingdales radar is more than 3000 miles. Iran has announced that has built a 3000 km range radar that call type of this radar as "Keyhani ( means cosmos or univers) radars", I guess this 3000 km range radar is similar to AESA phased array radar of RAF Fylingdales.

I believe third image doesnt show a complete radar, I guess its a scaled down radar or a part of radar with smaller numbers of element as demonstrator of technology just for displaying and most likely the actual radar is in similar size of radar of RAF Fylingdales.

I've had a really busy past week; I just finished up my class/research project on Iran so I had a huge final project I had to write which meant I haven't had much time for the forums.

Good find, I've never seen this radar before either, but given its general configuration I'm guessing that it's probably a long-range, low-band surveillance radar. It would be nice to get a close-up of those antenna, or of the trailer so we can get a better idea of the scale.

rouz jan,

no, it has nothing to do with the NEBO radar   :D

attached you can find the pics of the "new" radar.

Abu Musa seems to be highly equipped with anti air systems...

Ha? Why would we need to do that? They'll probably combine it with Alim, Matla'ul Fajr, Kashef and Najm for the next time.
