Russian official: Iran won't get our missiles

Military official says Moscow will not supply Iran with 'large missile systems' due to UN sanctions

Associated Press Published: 07.20.10, 17:52 / Israel News

Russia's Interfax news agency cites a top military official as saying the UN's latest Iran sanctions, which Moscow has backed, rule out the delivery of missile systems.

Russia has yet to fulfill a 2007 contract with Iran over the delivery of the sophisticated S-300 defense missiles. The West has urged against arming a state suspected of running a covert nuclear weapons program.

Military official Alexander Fomin on Tuesday did not directly identify the S-300s, but pledged Moscow would desist from supplying "large missile systems" in accordance with the sanctions, Interfax reported.

It is the latest indication that the deal is dead. Last month, the Russian government said the sanctions blocked the missile sale, but Iran insisted the restrictions don't cover existing contracts.

They have for sometime. They actually control the Russian government as well as Germany and France. Just a few countries that are controlled by Zionists. They control the majority of world governments.

Iran should buy their hardware from some other nation and at the same time the national arms industry should do what they can to get the know-how to make all the parts to these weapon systems and even engineer and fabricate better ones for future. I know its easier said than done, but there should be huge efforts for better and more efficient defense of Iran and her sovereignty.

LOL from what other nation ? U.S?! Russia and China both voted for sanctions against Iran, so good luck getting weapons from them. This regimes time is running out and they know it. They try to shrug off the sanctions like they are nothing, these new sanctions are going to hit Iran very hard and you lapdogs for the regime will soon be out of jobs.

Iran has the ability and the equipment to build a decent SAM by themselves and i am willing to bet China would not mind selling technology and assistance to Iran.

Russia vague  on S-300 delivery to Iran
Sat Aug 21, 2010 4:50AM

Russia's S-300 air defense system

Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov says no decision has yet been made regarding the delivery of S-300 air defense systems to Iran.

“We are not supplying anything. There is no decision on supplies,” Ria Novosti quoted Serdyukov as telling reporters in Yerevan on Friday.

Russia signed a contract with Iran in December 2005 for sale at least five S-300 surface-to-air missile systems. However, the contract's implementation has continuously been delayed by the Russian side due to intense political and economic pressures by the US and EU on behalf of the Israeli regime.

Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi indicated on Tuesday that Tehran is still waiting for Russia's official response on the status of the contract.

"After the endorsement of the US-proposed UN sanctions resolution, some quarters in Russia made comments on the sale of the air defense system. But Russian officials have still not clarified the status of the deal,” he said.
He added, "The Russians announced that they are still waiting for their president's decision regarding UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution 1929, but we are also pursuing the case."

The sale of S-300 systems is believed to fall under the current UN sanctions, though Russia has said that the delivery would not be affected since the weapons are not included in the UN Register of Conventional Arms.

Washington has strongly opposed the deal, arguing that the fourth round of the UNSC sanctions as well as the unilateral measures by the US and EU against Iran should keep Moscow from delivering the missiles.

The head of the Russian State Technology Corporation Rostekhnologii, Sergei Chemezov, said in July that the contract had not been cancelled.

The S-300 is capable of shooting down aircrafts, cruise missiles and ballistic missile warheads at ranges of over 144 kilometers and at altitudes of about 90,000 feet (27,432 meters).

By the time the Russians decide to pass S-300 SMPU's that Iran purchased it will be considered an old technology.

The contract was signed in 2005, we are in second half of 2010 that is almost five years late already. Russians may or may not pass these missiles to Iran next year but by then their technology advantage is pretty much useless and compromised by Iran's arch enemies!

Iran should simply cancel the sale due to no delivery and not only collect the one billion paid to Russians already but also the $400,000000.00 dollars as the penalty. With that Iran can spend the money on other countries to obtain bits and pieces of technologies needed to manufacture it on its own. As we have already seen in the last parade, Iran already posses a good portion of a or two functioning units, that is where Iran should start.

Well technically they arent 5 years late..Most military contracts take several years to be finalized.

And if Iran cancels the contract good luck getting any of the money back from the Russians let alone the interest...As the Russians have proven time and time again, contracts with them are pretty worthless.

can you define 'several', eagle. 5 years is a long time to wait for finalisation.
Iran will liberate Palestine, its only a matter of time and the ZioNazis know that, so theyre going down destructing everything.

It will happen in due time. Palestinians and proper Jews will be able to unite and live under peace!

The whole international weapon trade deals are shams.

Third world countries will get only outdated and useless version of the weapons once US, Israel, France, UK have the countermeasures or weapons that are much better and superior.

Iran will get S-300 once Israel and US air forces know how to defeat it.

Russia did not even care about the safety of Russian engineers in Bushehr, working on Iran nuclear reactor.

Iran will get S-300 in a few years when it has less importance and when US introduce more advanced weapons.

This is how it works... Iran should try and obtain these techs by all means and not lean on a single nation for such supplies. Im pretty sure thats how thet are doing it already though.
