If washed and with a fresh coat of paint, it could look much nicer! At last estimates that I could remember, the numbers of Su-25's active with IRGC Air division was placed at 7. Are there any reliable sources which show new acquisitions of this jet?

I like how it looks, but I would not call it 'elegant.' I think it looks grimy and menacing.

Let's be honest

This plane looks dated. Its future replacement, the Su-39 looks slightly better. However neither the Su-25 nor the Su-39 are going to win any beauty contests.

It looks rustic

Looks kind of like a PE-2 bomber

America always designs their planes as if they were models for beauty contests. Look at the Su 25 equivilant for example, the A 10.

I think Su-25 looks nicer than A-10

Also I think F-86, F-5, F-14, F-15, and F-22 all look fugly

i think that the A10 is one of the most ugliest planes still flying :/
i've alwasy found the soviet/russian designs much more beautiful than the americans

Actually the A-10 is pretty well protected against MANPADs...for one thing its one of the most well armored planes in the world..Also its high set engines make them less exposed to such weapons (mainly because the exhaust goes over the horizontal stabilizers and thus reduces the Infared signature)...Also the A-10 is designed to fly very easily with just one engine should it get hit...The A-10 was built to withstand heavy AA fire and MANPADs which is way it has such a great combat record (only a handful have been lost in combat)..The A-10 is so sturdy it normally took something the size of a SA-2 to take it out...This includes 900lbs of Titanium protecting the Cockpit, armor protection up to 23mm all around..

Just look at this damage an A-10 got in 2003 over Iraq...all this damage and the plane flew back to base without much trouble:

A-10 is very cool light bomber. It flies low and slow below the radar. Once it goes under the radar high altitude defences it bombs with napalm or shoots tanks with Hellfire (TV radio guidence from cockpit by pilot). It can not handle Shilka and Igla. MANPAD might hit it but also might miss it if you shoot it not from incoming position.

Basically, the reason is because the F-35 is sexy and they've already spent truck-loads of money on it, so they have to do something with it.

Also because it's more of a multi-role, it's got stealth, better maneuverability, better A2A, that sort of thing.

But really i think it's mainly the first one.

They've spent so much money on it that they have to buy it to keep the unit costs down and export more. Correct me if i am wrong but i think that the costs are nearly $200 million each!
