The short-nosed ones are the F-4D while the longer nosed ones are the F-4E

Great shots,
Quite a surprise to see shark mouth combat planes in that part of the world, this is definite western influence although it is a beautiful plane with or without the special painting

There are two identifiable upgrade programs for the F-4, the Zam-Zam 1 and Zam-Zam 2, in 2001, 50 airframes were rebuilt and strengthened. Avianics were also upgrades, but no specifics are available. Multiple different munitions were also integrated, supposedly including the R-73, also confirmed a range of A2G munitions.

While not official position, its my opinion that the F-4's in the IRIAF are being converted to bomb-trucks with limited A2A capability, the upgrades you see and will see are all going to be things like targetting pods and advanced ground attack munitions instead of a new radar or integration of the AIM-54's.

Compare Iran's upgrade of APQ-120 to original radar..Not a whole lot of difference, just a slightly different antenna but still interesting to finally see some pics!

Those shelters are the QR positions at Bandar-e-Abbas. Interesting that the camo has been painted on within the past 9 months ;)
