we need to replace these aircrafts, no arguments..
cuz:

1) they are obviously not good anymore!
2) they are american..
3) our pilots lives are worth more!

Ahriman they will not replace them for a million reasons but here are a few...we will not buy russian or any other planes due to fact that in a war scenario they can be persuaded not to give us spare parts...Iran doctrine is land power with massive fire power with protection against aerial attack and the build up of a sea going navy to protect commerce and project power...air power is last for Iran since it believes in all other areas can eventually build up to compete with USA with either tactics ( swarming) or technology. However, air force is last for Iran since in aerial tactics USA is dominant and so is in numbers and technology so this is hard for any country even Russia or china to compete directly with USA. Iran will advance it's navy and in future naval air force possibly even in the form of UAV will be the driving force of Iranian air force modernization. Iran does not believe in blitzkrieg or aerial force as a projection of power...based on these the air force modernization ( by mass production of a domestic fighter) always gets less funding than all the other branches

My friend,

first, Iran has many %ig-29, Su-24 and other 4th generation aircrafts to protect itself, and I sincerely believe that the F-4 or 5 are intended more to carry recon or training missions. Not much more.

But Iran's defences are more shore and ground based against US aircrafts and navy, as a US land invasion is out of question.

If we want to replace all ageing aircrafts, it would take billions and most of all a good supplier. Russia and China aren't, so who can we adress? Pakistan? Ukraine? Europeans???????

It's not a matter of choice for Iran...

Good he made it!

These planes are ageing of course and in normal circumstances they would be replaced.
on the other hand given the context, spending money and equipping IRIAF with top notch sukhois or even Ok Chinese J-10s will not make any difference except it will draw money from other projects. I guess the priority is Air defense, electronic & radar together with a missile strike force. The task is to optimize all the resources in order to offer Iran a potent and capable defense and interdiction force and that is not always compatible with a conventional approach.
