That is a fact! I hope such ides are mentioned more in public.

There is no important technical information about IRIAF in his remarks. He talks about politics, Islamic revolution and generally about Air Force. Most important point in his remarks is title of article . He says: "By Supreme Leader measures we will see a changed Air Force in Army soon".

Usually when supreme leader directly enters to a project, that project will be accomplished faster.
It is said some projects like "Jamaran" and "Bavar373" were launched due to direct order of Supreme Leader.

Thanx M-ATF jan...

One can say same thing about Iranian navy.. After that the leaders stated the importance of the Navy, both IRGCN and IRIN become a regional naval force&power..

Personally I believe we can't see any major changes till at least next 5 years, reform and change in IRIAF needs long time.

I think we will start producing our own fighter jets soon. We have all the technological capabilities, all we need now is heavy investment in it by the government.

What i always wonder is if they could be producing jets secretly, but i always conclude it would have been seen by now.

with current rise in defense budget ,  now i m almost certain that this year is the year of the air-force ... Iran cant buy fighter jets from abroad so what i expect to see ...

1- Unveiling of real Saeqeh
2- Some heavier version of Karrar UCAV
3- AEW version iran-140
4- Possibly 3rd party deal (through Syria) for something from  Russia or Ukraine
5- Air force version of Shahed 285
6- Possibly some A2A BVR missile

Agree with you.. But I still think buying some jets, maybe from china is kind of good idea. So we can study them not for revers engineering direct but rather know more about other jets so we can build better ones..

shafagh project was left out for Iran in 2004 and thats when it was unveiled.. i think they have been working on it since 2002 but after ten years i think it should be ready for test or production..

it says 2013 in wikipedia.

I hope too they will make a new jet.. However talking about " soon " makes this option hard... I mean even if they show us a prototype now, testing it and producing a fleet would take long years...

Thats why i think they might go for getting some chinese or russian jets ... Or cooperate with china or russia to produce the jets as India did... Just questions

Iran cant buy fighter aircraft from  anywhere due to sanctions ... Russians backed out from giving S-300  even with payment made from Iran , let alone buying fighter jets

What I can see happening here is that Russia supplies iran with additional RD-33's and Topaz or Zhuk radars through syria or in any other way ... while Iran uses them for its own production ... Saeqeh platform can be modified  easily and HESA has the capacity ... making a BVR fighter armed with R-77 / 73 / 27 along with domestic Sejjil A2A ...will make our skies safe ...

New generation of aircrafts takes a very long time to design/manufacture. Plus they require heavy investments, which could be spend better elsewhere at this moment. If war is incoming soon, tens of billions invested in advanced missiles and SAM's are far better than some future fighters which will still be several generations behind US, and in more limited numbers.

That said, if Russia or more likely China transfer technology of some advanced fighters, then after some adaptation (for Iran's situation and also masking the source of tech., China would hate to be in the hot seat for breaking UN resolution), Iran could have advanced and much more capable fighters much faster.

Cant Iran adapt F-4 design ? ... Iran has been flying F-4 for more than anyone else . Has upgraded them , has experience on J-79 . With excellent physical performance of phantom , If modern radars like zhuk ME or AE  along with avionics suite from  Russia can be gained then it will  result into a very suitable fighter for  IRIAF needs .

In my opinion any reform in the IRIAF  will be of an unconventional nature. I dont think we will see conventional fighter jets and will probably see more stealthy drones, missiles and advanced cyberspace and counter-cyberspace capabilities.

The era of F-22s and Su-khoi fighters claiming air dominance is over not only for Iran, but for the whole world. The world is going in the direction of unmanned aerial vehicles with great cyberspace capabilities and avionics.
it's time to nut up or shut up!

I think first thing that can start and accelerate reform in Air Force is mass production of the prototype of turbofan engine that was unveiled last year in the exhibition that was launched for supreme leader.

One of our friends in IMF, talked about two Iranian made turbofan based J-85 and TF-30 , unfortunately after that we didn't see him again in this forum and he removed his explanation about those projects too.

Right on.  Any investment in combat craft with a human in it is a waste.   I assume (and hope) this 'tahavol' is indeed of an unconventional nature examples which you describe.

Emirzaad, khaeli right on the money. RD33 , R-77and Zhuk via Syria is the way to go to put on the Saeqeh.

If Khamenei has given the order then it becomes a priority.

Without a good airforce we are exposed to aggression.

RD-33 isn't suitable for Saeqeh airframe, compare diameter of RD-33 with diameter of J-85. Saeqeh needs a new turbofan based on J-85 with performance similar to Honeywell F125. If Iran could build a turbofan based J-85 with 25-30 kn dry thrust with the minimum increase in size, It can be perfect for Saeqeh.
If supreme leader enters to a project, surely it is domestic not buying from other countries.

M-ATF, the priority for Iran right now is to mate an engine with the massive performance and ruggedness of an engine like the RD33 which Iran has considerable experience with or better yet reverse engineer the ultimate engine like the Al-31F from Syrian Flankers onto the Saeqeh airframe.

Believe me if Iran does just that, and mass produces this new beast........we have done it!

I am sure many people are thinking along these lines because a newer Zhuk or the N011M copied from Syrian Flankers and mass produced along with the R73/ 77 combi is the best thing Iran can do right now. Start producing a dozen a month of this new Saeqeh!

This is what it will take to resurrect the IRIAF, and throw all the Zamon-e Shah junk in the toilet.

Can you imagine these Gulfy's shit their pants then?........... :D

Saeqeh is under naval aviation i guess right now ,  wiki says navy is acquiring saeqeh . If Noor, Kowsar , Mehrab  , Nasr or Zafar ASCM can be wired on it then , having them in no.  around 50-60 gives huge boost to strike capability of Naroieh Dariyeh ... Kahlije fars is not a big sea that needs long range strike fighters , with a fleet of around 35 Submarines , 30 surface Vessels ( Frigates + Corvettes + FAC) , 200 Missile Boats , some 60 Saeqehs armed with above mentioned ASCMs , with support of Anti ship ballistic missiles ... enemy will think twice before doing something stupid with Iran .

Coming back to topic , Only possible choice of an airframe that can accommodate Klimov turbofans and Zhuk ME radars (e.g.) seems to be based upon F-4 phantom ...

whatever aircraft IRIAF needs to acquire / create today should be multirole and for that it should be large enough for carrying both A2A and A2G weaponry , with long raneg since iran has a large area to cover ( we have a very big country ) . Phantom based airframe seems best to me for the job , give it klimovs 33 or even 93  , Zhuk ME , and Mig-29M2 style weapon suite and we will have a strong fighter in the sky ... easy route would be to Use locally made J-79s , and just ask Russia to deliver the modern Topaz or Zhuk radars ( ME or AE if possible), Mig-35 caliber Avionics suite and alot of A2A weaponry ( R77 ,  R73 , R27 ) .... while not to mention that Physical Performance of Phantom , Speed , Climb rate , Range , Payload are excellent  and better than most of the air-crafts flying  around ...

believe me , such a fighter in numbers around 100-120 will seriously mean something .....
