^ Nothing unexpected at all. When even the largest and most successful auto manufacturers of the world were going under and needed state bailout, Iran went about privatizing its own auto industry. Leaving ideology aside (like how I consider privatization of public property to be theft) one needed only to skim through some financial reports of the industry to realize the foolishness of the privatization.

Some of you cats were saying privatization would make it more efficient. How wrong you were lol

Iran's second brand car welcomed in Middle-East, North Africa

Fars News Agency (Tehran) - Runna, the second brand sedan of Iran's largest carmaker Iran-Khodro Company (IKCO), was widely welcomed by drivers in the Middle East and North Africa.

A market research by IKCO export and international affairs said that the quality, safety and reasonable price of Runna has drawn the attention of people in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Libya.

Elegant design, wide variety of accessories and fuel efficiency have drawn the attention of the people in these countries.

IKCO has started initial measures to export this sedan to the Middle Eastern countries.

Based on the export oriented approach of IKCO management, the company aims to develop its presence in global target markets.

According to IKCO's Chief Executive Officer Najmeddin, the company has exported cars to 30 countries, mainly to Central Asia, the Middle East, Europe, South America, and Africa.

The company has recently received orders for its newly self-developed car, Runna, from different countries.

The CEO stated that the company supplies spare parts and provides after-sales service to its customers through 139 dealers in 27 countries.

Iraq is one of IKCO's main target markets in the Middle East. IKCO is currently running a production plant in this country. Production capacity of IKCO plant in Iraq is 30 thousand cars a year.

Imports of luxury cars into Iran up 30%

Over 15,750 luxury cars, worth around $341 million, have been imported into Iran during the first five months of the current Iranian year, which began on March 20, showing some 30 percent rise year on year.


Luxury cars in streets of Tehran

The average price of each car was $21,648, the ISNA news agency reported.

The cars were mainly imported from the UAE, South Korea, and Oman.

Wealthy Iranians are fuelling an unprecedented luxury car boom despite sanctions hurting their economy, paying up to $360,000 for high-end autos, AFP reported in April.

Iran's automobile market is highly protected against imports, allowing in only 40,000 vehicles last year, despite steadily growing demand mostly met through domestic production of some 1.6 million cars per year.

There are now an estimated 14 million vehicles on Iran's roads, more than double the six million registered in 2005.

Nice, any idea about the price range?
RUNNA was pre ordered some months ago in spring. On that time it is said price of it is less than 15 millions Toman (6000 USD , now each dollar equals around 2500 Toman) but I guess it will be sold with higher prices. but surely its price is much more attractive than 206.

Given the price you mentioned, it will sale like cake on export markets!
Low price of it in USD is due to increase of value of Dollar against Toman. At least this is good for exporters.

You hit the nail on the head. Before the "Euro Circus" countries like France and Italy had an industrial economic policy based on the competitive disinflation. Now that their hands are tied, Germany is eating them all up therefore inducing a collapse in their economies. The Chinese currency is also undervalued making Chinese products more competitive.
The export markets are very important and Iran should boost its exports, especially products integrating high added value.

I don't know about the model in the photo, but the older models were and still are the most city pulutents in Iran. They all must be scrapped from Iran. They do more damage than any other vehicles in Iran today!

I guess they have managed to replace the engine. The old Mercedes diesels were indeed noisy and polluting a lot. Last time I was on my way to northern Iran I saw these amazingly oldies, Mercedes buses together with those die hard Leyland and Mack trucks that you see nowhere else.

توليددومين خودرو ملي ايران خودرو به نام رانا در سه ماهه آخر سال جاري به روزانه 300 دستگاه درروز مي رسدکه اين ميزان بيش از پيش فروش اين خودرو به مشتريان است.   



به گزارش ايکوپرس دکتر حسين نجاري قائم مقام مدير عامل ايران خودرو درتوليد با بيان اين مطلب گفت : هم اکنون توليد اين خودرو روزانه 50 دستگاه است که هر هفته 50 دستگاه توليد روزانه آن افزايش مي يابد.

وي افزود : تدابير لازم براي خريد قطعات استراتژيک رانا انديشيده شده و اقدامات لازم صورت پذيرفته است. 

قائم مقام مدير عامل ايران خودرو تصريح کرد : خودروي رانا ، در راستاي توسعه برند ملي و پلتفرم هاي ايران خودرو طراحي شده است و استاندارد هاي روزدنيا در زمينه آلايندگي ، ايمني ، دوام و کيفيت را تامين مي کند .

وي با اشاره به اينکه خودرو رانا دوستدار محيط زيست است ، خاطر نشان ساخت : درسال توليد ملي قراراست  بيش از 30 هزار دستگاه رانا توليد شود.
