IKCO Unveils First National Diesel Engine

IKCO unveils its first national diesel engine for passenger cars in November 17, at the sixth International Conference on Internal Combustion Engines (November 17-19).

Najmeddin, IKCO CEO in this regard said, We have designed and produced national diesel engine in order to bring diversity to the fuel portfolio of passenger cars.
Referring to the engines high rank in global standards such as emission, consumption and power Najmeddin said that diesel passenger cars would go into mass production by 2012.

Iran's No. 1 Car-Manufacturing Company to Offer 3 New Products Each Year

TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of the Middle-East's largest auto-manufacturing company, Iran Khodro (IKCO) announced that the company is scheduled to unveil three new products each year.
Presenting three new products and two diversified models for each year is a part of IKCO's agenda," Javad Najmeddin said, explaining the company's eight-month performance in the current Iranian year (ends March 20) as well as plans for the years ahead.

Referring to Soren ELX and Samand SE introduction to the market by the end of the Iranian year, Najmeddin added, "Peugeot 207i will be unveiled in manual and automatic versions in the current year and the production capacity of this car will be five thousand units per annum."

"New Pars LX and ELX, with boosted safety and comfort features and lower fuel consumption in comparison with its basic model, will hit domestic and foreign markets soon," he continued.

Najmeddin further pointed to the increase in the production and sales of the company as well as plans to introduce new products while boosting quality, and said, "IKCO's market share in terms of both value and volume increased from 45.4% and 52.7% in the last year to 51.4% and 59% in November this year, respectively."

IKCO has produced three million vehicles in the past six years alone, which is equivalent to its total production over the previous 36 years.

IKCO plans to increase its annual production to one million vehicles by January of 2009 out of which 800,000 will be produced by domestic plants and the remaining 200,000 vehicles will be manufactured by the company's sites abroad.

Iran-Khodro to Unveil Middle-East's First Hybrid Bus

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's largest car and truck-manufacturing company, Iran-Khodro, is due to unveil the first hybrid bus of the Middle-East in the next 3 months, a company official announced on Sunday.

Hybrid Bus project manager Mohsen Isfahanian said that related tests on parts have already been carried out and that the hybrid bus will undergo the final testing in the near future.

"The hybrid system designed in this project was installed on one of Iran-Khodro Diesel Co. (IKD) city buses. The related tests regarding parts have been done and we are going to perform the vehicle test soon," Isfahani stated.

The 4-year project was a collaborative effort by Iran-Khodro Industrial Group, Tehran University, Isfahan University and Iran's Fuel Conservation Company (IFCO).

Isfahanian further said that the new product has lessened fuel consumption and also pollution by 30 to 40 percent.

Hybrid cars address problems of high fuel prices and consumption and the greenhouse effect, and thus, many countries tend toward using hybrid buses in their urban transportation system.

Commenting on the features of the newly developed hybrid engine, the project manager noted, "The electric engine is capable of moving the bus independently. The regenerative engines connected to the wheels make it possible to convert the energy created by the breaks to charge the batteries."

"Another way of charging is to plug in the batteries while the bus is parked," he noted.

this is an interesting development indeed because when iran states that it's making a hybrid, it usually means it's combing Gaseous fuel and the traditional gasoline, but now we have electricity.

Iran for sure needs to get every car in Iran transformed to LPG and keep on building more LPG stations. If we get sanctioned on the benzine, we can simply stop selling it to the people... everyone can user LPG instead.

Anyone have any news on how far we're with the transformation?

Iranian Co. Achieves Powertrain Production Know-how

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's largest car and truck-manufacturing company, Iran-Khodro Co. (IKCO), announced that it has achieved the technical know-how required for designing and producing different versions of automotive powertrains.
IKCO's most modern cylinder block and cylinder head machining equipment has put an end to (the country's) dependence on foreign companies," Iran-Khodro Company Deputy Chief Executive (CEO) for Powertrain Ali Sheikhzadeh said.

The technology enables the company to achieve self-sufficiency in manufacturing its engines without foreign aid.

In a motor vehicle, the term powertrain or powerplant refers to the group of components that generate power and deliver it to the road surface, water, or air. This includes the engine, transmission, driveshaft, differentials and the final drive (drive wheels).

Sometimes "powertrain" is used to refer to simply the engine and transmission, including the other components only if they are integral to the transmission.

"As scheduled, we will supply the powertrain needed for 680 thousand vehicles by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (ends on March 20)," Sheikhzadeh said, adding, "We can fully cover the next year program of 800 thousand sets of products."

He further noted that the car-manufacturing company is preparing the required procedures for the production of diesel powertrain for passenger cars, scheduled to be mass produced by 2011.

Last month, Iran-Khodro unveiled the first Iranian-made diesel engine to be used in cars.

The new diesel engine is a hi-tech machine which consumes 5 liters per 100 kilometers in combined cycle and is predicted to cost less than $1,000 when mass produced.

The striking engine has achieved emission standard of Euro 5, featuring a Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) as well as a new Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR).

Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) eliminate the diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) is a nitrogen oxide emissions reduction technique to lower exhaust emissions.

Not only does fiat make awful cars... the owner is said to have ordered the assasination of his own son because he became a Muslim. The son did everything to get over to Iran, but he was killed before that unfortunately.

I doubt that rumor though. Even the most liberal western parents would still prefer their child to turn to Islam rather than to homosexuality... however politically incorrect that may be. Anyhow, I'm not a parent myself but i have a hard time believing someone would kill their own son due to such a rather trivial thing.

I have no issue believing it. They claim he committed suicide. Which is ridiculous. Anyway, its been a long time and I forgot a lot about it. However he died in a range way from a bridge or something, they claimed he committed suicide. It all fits well with the elitist attitude of these billionaire families.

Technical failure in Iran cars claim 3,000 lives

More than 3,000 people have been killed on roads across Iran every year due to technical failure in vehicles, says Traffic Police Commander Colonel Alireza Esmaeili.

"According to the Iranian police experts' reports, technical failure in cars is the cause of 13 percent of the country's fatal road accidents," Esmaeili told Mehr news agency on Tuesday.

The senior police commander also criticized the quality of vehicles manufactured in Iran.

"Home-made cars lack quality and safety. They are also very expensive. It's because the Iranian car companies are governmental," he further explained.

"The giant automakers in the world are using electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), while we are still discussing anti-lock braking system (ABS) in Iran," he noted.

According to Esmaeili, all the Iranian carmakers would go bankrupt, if tariffs on imported vehicle were to be cut.

A total of 23,000 Iranians have died and 280,000 others injured in 800,000 car accidents across the country over the past year.

TEHRAN – Giant Iranian carmaker Iran Khodro Company plans to start export of Soren model of Samand equipped with TU5 engine to Russia in the new year.

IKCO expanded its after sales services in Russia last year and plans to start TU5 engine Samand cars to Russia in 2010, according to the Mehr News Agency.

Iran Khodro is currently exporting Samand meeting Euro4 standard as well as Peugeot 206 to Russia.

Iran Khodro is the largest automobile producer in Iran which was founded in 1962. Iran Khodro has produced Samand as Iran's first national car which is based on the Peugeot 405 platform.

The firm has a long-term relationship with PSA Peugeot Citroën, and assembles a number of Peugeot models under license from the French firm. In 2009, Peugeot 206, Peugeot Pars, Peugeot 405, Peugeot Roa, and Samand sedans were IKCO's export-bound cars sent mainly to Iraq, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Syria and Afghanistan

IKCO to make 300,000 economy engines per year

Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) plans to produce more than 300,000 economy engines during the next Iranian calendar year (starting March 21, 2010).

“Following the strategy of reducing fuel consumption, IKCO will allocate 50 percent of its production capacity to low consumption engines in the next year,” said IKCO Deputy Chief Executive (CEO) for Powertrain, Ali Sheikhzadeh.

“Producing this number of low consumption engines can
be considered a leap forward in enjoying the EF7 and TU5 engines on IKCO products,” he added.

Sheikhzadeh says the launch of an economy engine production line with the capacity of 1,000 units a day will lead IKCO toward the goal of replacing high consumption engines with those with lower consumption rates.

Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) says it has exported 20,000 passenger cars since the beginning of the Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2009).

The IKCO expects the number to reach 36,000 cars by March, 2010.

“IKCO has exported some 3,000 CKD cars in the same period that will increase to 4500 units by this March,” said Amir-Abbas Hosseini, IKCO Vice Deputy for Export Affairs.

The regional markets including Turkey, Iraq, Syria, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries as well as Switzerland and Eastern Europe states such as Bulgaria are among the top markets of IKCO, he said.

“Samand, among IKCO products, holds the largest share of the export to the European and CIS countries," said Hosseini.

Citing the cooperation with Peugeot and other partners, he said that IKCO plans to increase its profitability and expand product portfolios in its overseas sites.

In its latest report, IDRO Export and the International Cooperation Development office ranked IKCO as the exporting the most vehicles among IDRO subsidiaries in the first half of the year.

Iran-Khodro to Boost Global Sales

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's largest auto-manufacturing company, Iran-Khodro, announced that it plans to boost exports this year as part of its broader plans for hiking global sales.

"Expanding the new markets, specially in West Europe, increasing the existing market share and bringing more diversity to the portfolio of products are IKCO's solutions to maintain its competitive advantages in the market," IKCO's Deputy CEO for Exports Ali Reza Feizbakhsh announced.

The company has been able to export over 32,000 vehicles to more than 20 countries all across the world despite the current global economic crisis, he said.

"Exports to Africa in 2010 are certain and Nigeria will receive the first shipment of Samand this year," the official added, elaborating on the company's exports plans.

Feizbakhsh also stated that the company is eying export of 40,000 sets of cars this year.

The thirty percent growth in IKCO's global sales network has brought the title of Iran's 2009 top exporter to the company. Samand, Soren, Peugeot 405 and ROA are among the products exported by the company.

Iran's state-owned Iran Khodro is the largest carmaker in the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa, with an annual production of more than one million vehicles of various models, including cars, trucks, minibuses and buses.

IKCO is also ramping up exports as it builds a global presence outside Iran.

Regional markets and the neighboring countries, including Iraq, Syria, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, the CIS countries as well as Bulgaria, Switzerland, Eastern Europe and Turkey, are the main customers of the company.

IKCO in the past two years has also begun kit assemblies in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Venezuela and Argentina, with plans to add assembly in Egypt, Vietnam and China in the next year or two.

The vehicle of choice for most of these local assembly operations is Samand, a compact sedan based heavily on the Peugeot 405 platform and with the price starting at about $9,000. "Samand" is the Persian name for a local breed of horse.

Market observers believe that Samand could challenge future Chinese and Indian imports at the low end of the market.

Samand trade name is now registered at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Iran-Khodro group, owner of Samand, is the first Iranian company whose product is registered at the WIPO.

Car maker IKCO to roll-out diesel cars by 2011

The Iran Khodro Company (IKCO) plans to mass-produce Iran's first diesel passenger car by the end of 2011.

Alireza Aslani, the national diesel engine project executive, says the diesel engine would be mounted on the Samand sedan model by January 2012.

"It is Iran's first passenger-car diesel engine, capable of competing with the world's most modern ones," he said.

"It meets Euro V standard requirements and consumes 5 liters/100 km," he added.

Aslani reiterated that diesel engine's fuel consumption is 30 percent lower than the gasoline ones. The engine generates less carbon dioxide as well as monoxide, he added.

Aslani pointed out that the developmental tests on the engine's combustion, lubrication and cooling systems would be completed within three months and the durability and approval examinations would be conducted within a year.

Iran's first national diesel engine for passenger cars was unveiled at Iran Khodro Powertrain Co. (IPCO) on November 17, 2009. This 90Kw diesel engine is regarded as one of the most powerful of its kind worldwide.

Iran-Khodro to Unveil Peugeot 207i in February

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's largest car-manufacturer, Iran-Khodro Company, is scheduled to unveil Peugeot 207i as its new product, an IKCO official announced on Sunday.

IKCO's Deputy CEO Javad Soleimani said that the company's new product will be unveiled in the Ten-Day Dawn (ceremonies from February 1-11, celebrating the victory of the Islamic Revolution back in 1979).

"By the end of the (Iranian) year (ends March 20) 500 units of this car will be produced," Soleimani said, adding that the daily production capacity would be 200 units, which would be increased in proportion to market demand.

Soleimani estimated that industrialization of 207i requires $1 million of investment, and stated, "The French Peugeot Company has agreed that in case localization of the new spare parts (needed for this vehicle) proves economical, it will provide 50 percent of the financial resource required for casts at IKCO's demand."

"Peugeot 207i would be produced in two series of manual and automatic," he underlined, and added, "Should the production prove economical, Peugeot will undertake its global sales from Iran."

Soleimani finally added that 207i would be produced in both hatchback and sedan models.

207i named 206 Plus is currently being produced in Brazil, Argentina and China and Iran would be the fourth producer of this car.

In November, IKCO Director Javad Najmeddin said that the company had signed an agreement with the French automaker to produce the Peugeot 207 cars at IKCO's facilities for export.

"An agreement has been signed with the French carmaker to build the Peugeot 207i car in Hatchback and Sedan models," he said.

According to Najmeddin, the produced cars will be exported to 63 countries, mainly to Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Belarus and Serbia, as well as Central Asian, Northern African and Persian Gulf countries.

Iran-Khodro is the largest Iranian automaker, having an average share of 65 percent of the domestic vehicle production.

Iran-Khodro Ups Production by 16%

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's largest car-manufacturing company, Iran-Khodro, announced that it has increased its production rate by 16% since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20,2009)

KCO has manufactured 74480 units of different passenger cars more than the same period last year, the company's Deputy Head of Comprehensive Production System Hossein Najjari said, adding that Iran-Khodro has produced 541794 units of different passenger cars in the last 10 months.

Reminding the company's plan to further increase the production capacity, Najjari said, "Currently IKCO's daily production is about 2700 units that would be increased to 3000 units a day by March."

"IKCO intends to produce up to 780 thousand cars next year; the amount will run up to one million units by 2012," he added.

Iran's state-owned Iran Khodro is the largest carmaker in the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa, with an annual production of more than one million vehicles of various models, including cars, trucks, minibuses and buses.
