Iran Special Forces - Takavaran

In Persian, Tak means attack and Takavaran means those who bring attacks or simply "attackers". The singular form is called "Takavar" or "Attacker".

It seems as if we do not have a threat for Iranian Special Forces (per my search). I start this one with some photos from a well known Takavar Hassan Abe-Shenassan who became the commander of Iranian Air Born Special Forces. He became KIA in 1364 (Iranian calender) during the war by a shrapnel in a mission called "Ghader".

There are a good number of photos available at the following link that I will try to add as I find some time:

What a coincidence, I just posted some patches from Navy special forces just a few seconds ago.

Here are some pictures of the "special boat service" commandos who I don't know much about. Does anyone know details about the IIN's relationship with British SBS pre-1979?

Takavar, as far as i'm aware, means 'he who goes on his own'.

I understand this particular translation, although I'm a bit surprised by it. 'tak' also means 'attack' (I thought) and 'pa-tak' means counter-attack (which brings into light the possible root of the word 'attack' btw).  In this context, up to now, I have intrepreted 'takavar' as 'one who brings attack', i.e.  'attacker' or 'aggressor'.

The quoted translation, somewhat implies this, but it isn't explicit, and I wonder if it has neglected the martial context of the word for some reason.  Thoughts appreciated,

(Note:  I hope I'm being redundant by saying that given the state of misinformation and factless and unsupported content that is rife on the 'internet' today, naturally, I cannot endorse, believe, support, or accept any of links posted by me or others.  I personally find them interesting, however, as they open new perspectives for me.  I leave it to the reader to glean what they can or want from them).

I always thought that in sailing the phrase "take a different tack" is somehow related to the Farsi which her means to take a different path or rout. I could not find my assumption to be true looking up in the Internet but nor I could find the root of the term
"tack"!

I thought it was an old timey boating reference where one would "tack" up a sail but that's just a guess.

The boating term 'tack'  probably is unrelated to 'attack' and the Persian 'pa-tak or tak' meaning 'counter-attack or attack'.

Tag is a Pahlavi word meaning Attack. it has changed to tak during ages. Pa-tak was Pad-tak at first. It has changed to Pa-tak too.

That would be a very empty thread. There's basically no reliable info on them...

There is a group that is even more secret than the Quds forces;

sarbazan'e gom naam.

They don't exist, in the sense that they do not have a birth certificate or any form of worldly possessions or identification.

Interesting no?

What I have heard they are like some kind of special-froces inside the Quds Force...

I don't know if its their training that makes them special, or their absolute selflessness.

Exact translation would be, ''soldier lost name'', or ''lost name soldier''

Gom (lost) naam (name)

But "unknown soldier" becomes the correct paraphrasing i assume.

What you are thinking of is sarbazan-e gomnam-e emam-e zaman (Unknown Soldiers of Imam Zaman).

They are not part of the military. That's just a nickname given to intelligence operatives (of the Intelligence Ministry).

And please don't go around translating gomnam as "lost name." People will look at you left left.

What Barberry is thinking of is shahid-e gomnam (Unknown Martyr).

Yes that is the full name, i was gonna mention they do intelligence gathering, but i just thought maybe its better not to say it...

LMAO at the left left comment..

Last summer, during the unrest, i actually went to behesht zahra and went to the graves of the 'shohad'a e gom naam', i cried and prayed for their souls and cursed people who are betraying Iran through their ignorance and even malicious acts.
