Stage Drills Soon
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Army's Ground Force plans to stage massive wargames in the near future to display part of its defensive capabilities, a senior army commander announced on Sunday.
Addressing army personnel here in Tehran today, Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan announced that the wargames will be held in the near future.
The commander did not reveal any further detail about the exact date and place of the military drills, but stated that "part of the power and might of the Army's ground force" would be displayed during the exercises.
Pourdastan added that the Army ground forces and their advanced tools, weapons and equipment would go on display during the exercises and play a key role in the wargames.
The announcement came a day after the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force started a series of military exercises in Iran's Eastern regions.
Commander of the IRGC Ground Force Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour said that the main phase of the drills, codenamed as Shohaday-e Vahdat (Martyrs of Unity), would start in Khaf general zone, East of Iran, on Monday.
Pakpour stated that the wargames are aimed at boosting security along the Iranian borders and are part of the IRGC ground forces' routine drills staged to maintain and boost combat preparedness of the IRGC units.
The commander also mentioned that exercising tactical strategies and asymmetric tactics of the IRGC combat units is among other objectives of the drills.
Earlier this month, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi announced the IRGC will soon stage its most massive naval exercises in Iran's Southern waters in the near future.
The IRGC's new drills came less than a week after Iranian Navy wrapped up its 10-day naval drills in the international waters in the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean. Fars News Agency
