Azerbaijan denies air space violation by IranTue 21 February 2012 12:31 GMT | 13:31 Local TimeText size: bigger smaller80754Azerbaijan's State Border Service has dismissed reports about the violation of Azerbaijani air space by an Iranian helicopter.A source in the Border Service told APA that no violation of the Azerbaijani-Iranian air border in Astara had been recorded in recent days, including today. The source said that reports of an Iranian flight over Astara were wrong.“Helicopters from the neighbouring country were observed flying over Iranian Astara, but they did not violate the air border and enter Azerbaijan’s air space," the source said.Meanwhile, the executive authorities of Azerbaijan's Astara District have also denied reports of an Iranian incursion into Azerbaijani air space."There's an accident and emergency station near the border crossing point on the Iranian side. From time to time civilian helicopters land there to pick up seriously ill patients. It looks as though someone mistook a civilian helicopter for a military one. The Azerbaijani border is securely guarded and no-one should have any doubt about this," a spokesman for the Astara District authorities said. There are two towns by the name of Astara, one on the Iranian side of the border and one on the Azerbaijani side.News.Azhttp://news.az/articles/politics/55112
