Iran to Unveil New Military Achievements in Days

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi announced that the country plans to unveil several achievements in the field of defense in the next few days.
   

Vahidi said new achievements in defense, aerospace and missile fields will be unveiled during the Ten-Day Dawn ceremonies from February 1 to 11, celebrating the victory of the Islamic Revolution back in 1979.

"Some of these key achievements have been mass produced and will be delivered to the Armed Forces as soon as they are unveiled to the public," Vahidi said.

The minister further noted that these achievements will once again prove the ineffectiveness of the sanctions imposed on Tehran by the West.

In December 2011, Vahidi unveiled 20 important projects in energy, nanotechnology, microelectronic, optic, laser, missile and naval fields.

Earlier this month, Vahidi announced that the country plans to unveil a home-made sea patrol aircraft within the next few weeks.

Vahidi said that the new aircraft is equipped with optical and radar subsystems and is capable of operating for long distances and can be used in maritime reconnaissance patrolling.

Iran has also taken wide strides in designing and manufacturing different types of light, semi-heavy and heavy weapons, military tools and equipment. Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.

Iran to unveil defense, missile products

Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says the Islamic Republic will unveil new achievements in defense, aerospace and missile sectors in the near future.


The products have been designed and manufactured by Iranian experts and will be unveiled during the 10-Day Dawn celebrations, which will begin on February 1, marking the 34th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Vahidi said on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Iran will introduce new products in electronic, telecommunication and air and sea defense fields as well as smart ammunition within the next days, he added.

The minister stated that some of these important products have been mass-produced and will be delivered to the Armed Forces.

He emphasized that the great achievements in Iran's defense industry once again prove the ineffectiveness of the US-led sanctions against Tehran.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and gained self-sufficiency in essential military hardware and defense systems.

Iran has repeatedly assured other nations, especially regional neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.

I guess finally they unveil Zafar missile.

Are these new things we have not seen yet, are are they thinsg we have seen before?

Although I really like to see what Zafar is but I sense we won't be seeing it anytime soon. Air defense can be a new Shahin variant or even new automatic AAAs. I hope it would not be Bavar because making a system with such a sensitivity in a short period of time means that it is nothing but "sambalkari".

Only "missile" sector remains. What can it be (except Zafar)?

And I really hope that they won't unveil foolish things like "Zafar PG-9" or "Valfajr Torpedo". I'd really be pissed if they start production of "Raad 2" or "Shahab Thagheb" or unveil "Rakhsh".

Unveiling new ballistic missile is possible too, because when officials in Iran talk about "missile sector" first possibility is ballistic missiles.

So, what information do we have on Zafar so far?

He has said that Zafar is fastest cruise missile [of Iran].

In the wake of the Qader being unveiled, I'm wondering if the Zafar is the C-803 (or the Iranian equivalent depending on the level of Chinese cooperation). It's the most logical progression given what we know about Iran's ASCM industry. Most of them are all Chinese and based around the C-701/704/802 generation of missiles so it makes sense that their newest missile would be as well rather then something completely different (such as a Soviet ASCM).

Hopefully more information will be provided about the IRGC's two new AFVs, such as their intended role.

Maybe you're right, But I think and hope to be wrong.

Sure, in fact I'd say that it's even more likely. Both the Qader and Zafar could be part of the larger effort to produce more sophisticated ASCMs based on the C-802. The technology is very similar across the three weapons since they're all essentially the same platform. I think it's an easier path then developing a completely new cruise or starting with another weapon and reverse engineering it.

I think a lot of it depends on the level of cooperation the Chinese are willing to provide. If they offered to provide the required tooling, training and materials for a C-803 production line (as they did with some ASCMs in the past) I'm sure Iran would seize the opportunity. On the other hand, the Chinese may be attempting to play a covert game and avoid drawing attention to the sales so the cooperation may be restricted to providing a small number of examples to Iran and providing the technical know-how to reverse engineer it. Alternately, China may be reluctant to engage in any cooperation (a prospect I'm doubtful of) and so Iran would have  to go their own way.

I can't point to any evidence that actually indicates the Zafar is the C-803, but I think it's a likely possibility at this stage given the small amount we know about it.

Well, it seems we are going to see Zafar at last. I remembered that they "said" it will be a naval missile before.

Also PGMs, SLVs, and some electronic and communication devices are going to be unveiled.

what is a naval cruise missile? does it mean the cruise missile will not be used as coast to sea? will it only be used from ships?
