Iranian Army to Test-Fire 3 New Missiles
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Army Ground Force plans to test-fire different types of missiles during a series of wargames due to be held in the near future, a senior army commander announced on Saturday.
Speaking to FNA, Lieutenant Commander of the Army Ground Force General Kiomars Heidari said his forces plan to stage massive missile drills in the near future.
He added that the wargames will be held by the end of the current Iranian year (ends on March 20) if okayed by the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.
"Part of the Army Ground Force's missile units will carry out combat and operational tactics in the wargames," Heidari stated. The commander further said that the army will be equipped with new missiles, adding that the missiles have already been test-fired and will undergo operational tests during the drills. "We plan to test-fire three new types of missiles in the wargames," Heidari underscored, adding that the exercises will be held in the country's Central regions.
Iranian officials and commanders said that all military exercises and trainings of the Iranian Armed Forces are merely meant to serve deterrent purposes.
"When the enemy observes that our Armed Forces are constantly in wargame zones and their fingers are kept on the trigger, it will not dare to invade the Islamic Iran's borders," Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said in January, underlining the significance of military trainings for boosting the country's deterrent power.
As regards the Iranian Armed Forces' military exercises, Pourdastan described wargames as "very important" to the Iranian military, and said drills have provided the Iranian military forces, including the Army Ground Force, with an opportunity to test its achievements and remove deficiencies for future missions.
In similar remarks in February, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said military power and achievements of the Iranian Armed Forces merely serve deterrent purposes.
"I am sure that the military power of the Iranian nation is not for attacking or dominating any other country, rather it is meant to be a deterrent factor," President Ahmadinejad said, addressing a ceremony to unveil a new Iran-made fighter jet, named Qaher 313.
"The military power of the Iranian nation is a demonstration of the faith and maturity of the Iranian nation which can defend itself at the lowest costs," Ahmadinejad stated. http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9107151252
