A list of websites and other resources where we all find our information might be helpful to people who are just starting out and looking for information, or even for more knowledgeable members to find a resource they might have missed their first time around.

Photo Galleries - Persian
Fars News - Fars News is one of the most popular sites and generally has a fair amount off fair-quality photos from vast majority of military events. If i could only visit one site for pictures, this would be it.

JameJam Online - Excellent, high quality photos from most events.

Borna News - Another excellent source for high quality photos. My one complaint is that the photo navigation is a real hassle, unless you have the correct options picked, clicking on a photo alternately either opens a new window, new tab, takes you do a duplicate of the page you were just at or sometimes just simply summons spirits from the netherworld.

I might be exaggerating a bit, but to me it's a real hassle, but it's often worth it because Borna often has the best quality images.

Mehr News Like Fars News, Mehr provides solid, medium-quality pictures of most military related events. However the one difference is that Mehr News occasionally has a few exclusive image galleries.

ISNA Iran Student's News Agency. Mediocre, low image quality compared to the others and only carries pictures of major events. However, once in a very great while, they do get some exclusive stuff just from the different provinces.

ILNA Iran Labor News Agency Like ISNA, but even worse, i rarely even bother looking at ILNA for military pictures.

IRNA Islamic Republic News Agency. Usually has some good imagery (though quality is occasionally hit-or-miss), fairly solid choice like Fars News, it is good all around pick, though for some people (or at least for me) it occasionally fritzes out and won't let you view the image gallery.

IRINN Islamic Republic of Iran News Network. Hit or miss with quality, sometimes the best available on the web, sometimes ISNA/ILNA quality. Other then that, fairly medium overall coverage of all events.

IMNA Isfahan Metropolis News Agency. Only rarely carries military photos due to it being a local newspaper, but twice a year on Army Day and Sacred Defense Week, they usually have excellent photos featuring the units based in Isfahan.

Khameni.ir The Supreme Leader occasionally attends military events, and when he does, EXTREMELY high quality shots can be found on his website.

YJC Photos - A relative newcomer, has high quality images.

ISCA

Photo Galleries - English
They're not worth it, if you don't speak Persian, all you need to know is what "photo" looks like in Arabic script (عكس) and how to spot it on the Persian-version of the webpage. Or just follow any of the hyperlinks above as they go straight to the image gallery rather then the news front page.

Easy as pie.

Photo Galleries - International
Airliners = Prime resource for researching, not only does it have an extensive database of high-quality images, they are often indexed with serials, home-bases and other useful tidbits of information one won't find with Fars News.
Airplane Pictures

News Websites - Persian
Fars News
IRNA
ISNA
Mehr News
PressTV
IRIB
Masregh News

News Websites - English
PressTV and Fars News-English are easily the best English-language news sources available regarding defense news (note: news, not analysis)
PressTV
Fars News

Official Military Websites
Sepah News
AJA
Basij
Modlex (old page)
Modlex (new page): It's worth mentioning that everyone who reads this should go to the Modlex site and read every single one of the entries. No joke, on a technical level, it provides an unparalleled amount of reliable information on Iranian weapons systems
Defense Industries Organization (DIO)
The Sacred Defense

Official Military-Related Websites
Iran Electronics Industry
Isfahan Optics Industry
Pars Aviation
Shiraz Electronics Industry
Rayan Roshd

Blogs

The Arkenstone - My Blog, emphasis on indigenous Iranian weapons, though touches on larger strategic issues as well.

Uskowi On Iran - Fair mix of news an analysis from professional authors. Emphasis on political, defense and nuclear developments. Good for following day-to-day developments.

Arms Control Wonk - Doesn't always post on issues relating to Iran, however they occasionally have an article pertaining to Iran's missiles or proliferation potential. Worth following simply because they provide EXCELLENT technical analysis of both the nuclear program and missile developments.

Information Dissemination - Blog on general naval warfare issues that covers Iranian naval developments.

IMINT and Analysis - One of the better Google-Earth IMINT (image intelligence) sources available today. The author doesn't specifically focus on Iran, but has several excellent pieces about Iranian facilities, particularly air defense. Highly recommended.

Informed Comment - written by the most excellent Juan Cole who mostly comments on other stuff besides Iran (which is still worth a look), but occasionally does provide a liberal-left perspective from within the US.

General Iran
insideIRAN
Iran Tracker While it has a slight right-wing slant (it tends to portray Iran as a threat to the west), it also has fairly good information and overview such as foreign relations which i have found particularly useful. Very slickly put-together website.
Race for Iran
PBS Tehran Bureau - pro-reformist slant
The Iran Primer
Monitor Mideast - General mideast news using primary sources. At least a handful of people from IMF are involved with it.

General Military
Scramble on the Web Currently (Jan. 7th 2011) down. Contains a fairly complete OOB for Iran's air arms. Some of their specifics with regard to rotary wing aviation at least are inaccurate, but overall it's still a valuable resource.

Missile Threat - unfortunately, often contains old and unreliable data with regard to Iran's missile projects - use this site at our own discretion.

Flight Global - General defense aviation news
Defense News
Long War Journal
Small Wars Journal - one of my personal favorites for COIN theory and the like
Naval Institute Guide to Combat Fleets (Google Books) - a bit outdated, but solid base of information
Center for Strategic and International Studies - Middle East

The Institute for National Security Studies - 4. - Sorry about the name, i don't know what the file is actually called, it's "section #4" or something like that. Anyways, it's a database on the IRI total military forces. It's set up with tables and charts. Dubious overall accuracy.

MEMRI - Translates Persian (as well as other ME languages)-language documents into English. Tends to have a slight right-wing leaning and tends toward portraying Iran in a negative light. However, still an invaluable resource and occasionally turns up real gems which would otherwise be inaccessible to English-speakers.

Memri is an israli project, its headed by  Yigal Carmon who is a former colonel in Israeli military intelligence

Salam, welcome to the forum. :)

If you feel like it, you could introduce yourself in the Introduction forum: http://www.iranmilitaryforum.net/index.php?topic=5.0

Anyway, as for what you said... I haven't seen anything political on their website... could you give me an example?

Anyone have any current/accurate intel on IRGCN HSPBs? The latest source I have is hardbound edition of Janes 2007, which really comes up short on the subject.

Also, anyone have an edition of the following they'd be willing to Scribd?

Author Name:  Mark Fitzpatrick
Title:  Iran's Ballistic Missiles Capabilities: A net assessment
Publisher:  The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS)
Date of Publication:  May 10, 2010
ISBN:  978-0-86079-205-5

Ayyash, the Borna link is nonop. Also, just want to mention I've found flaws in the Iranian section of Naval Institute Guide to Combat Fleets, such as hull no. of IRINS Tonb.

edit: Sepah News, Basij and Pars Aviation don't appear to be working.

Thanks for pointing it out, the dead link for Borna News has been fixed. Pars Aviation and Basij websites seem to be down though. The link to Sepah News appears to be working for me.

Can i include, these 2?? I know it might not be IR military related but nevertheless, great rare-English language unbiased site.

http://www.barackobama.ir/

About Us

BarackObama.ir is restarted!
After some delay due to the BarackObama.ir update, the Iranian based website has started to run again with a new outlook and contents.

BarackObama.ir is a rather small table for a number of Iranians to think and write on the United States of America, American people, American government, and every other matter available to us from that far land. When you sleep, it is only the beginning to the sounds of the doors' opening and the cars are moving on this side of the world. This only difference was enough for us not to think about you and vice versa. Nevertheless, we believe this is a good opportunity for us to establish a direct contact with you. As you are sleeping and resting, we are exploring your thoughts and behaviors so by the time you are awake, you will be able to see yourself from our perspective.

We are a number of journalists and writers who get together under various pretexts. We think about you more than you probably do about us. We think about your industry, moral, art and many other things. Probably, your president and his new figure compared with other presidents, is only a pretext for talking together. Sometimes, we certainly get sharp-tongued which would be required to counter a numerous acts of the American politicians. We are a small group who would question rather than giving judgments, though our questions are mostly sharp.

What are the BarackObama.ir features?

BarackObama.ir after a time of suspension due to technical problems has launched its new version. This website in its initial stages attracted a lot of attentions as the reaction made by Michael Ledeen, Barack Obama's Counselor on the Iranian Affaires, and has caused a lot of comments in the media as in guardian, Radio Free Europe, Yediot aharonot, etc. The website team hopes to have more influence on its readers in line with its new activities.

This website, launched by some independent media activists in Iran who belong to a wide range of political ideologies, considers studying the issues related to the American government and people and also the matters touching the Iran-America relations.

On BarackObama.ir you can read the Iranian or non-Iranian expert's latest analysis over the events concerned with the U.S. Politics, U.S. foreign policy, economical problems and human rights issues in the U.S. In addition to this you can also participate by sending your own works and articles on these domains.
A section for publishing journalistic videos and photos is designed in this website where you can find interesting picture news.

Besides, another major section designed in the BarackObama.ir can be found under "Obama Cafe" that has got three subcategories: Discussion, Hey you! and Entertainment.  Under the Discussion that has already gained the users' popularity in the old version, a subject is proposed by the users and subsequently  the users from Iran, America or other English speakers would be able to talk about the subject.

Some topics are published to be seen by president Obama under the "Hey you!" which is the initial part of "Hey You Mr. President! Have you seen this?"
Some comical writings and games having as their subject politics and International Relations are going to be published under the "Entertainment" section.

If you use to get informed about the latest news, the "Hot news" meets this demand. In this section the latest news from different Medias is published.
One of the sections to be added in the future is the "Tour of Iran". Iran has got special tourist attractions and natural and historical beauties which are unknown and unseen to many. In this section you can get a practical guide for a trip to Iran and visiting this beautiful land so as to get to know the behaviors and traditions of the Iranians by a closer contact.

Another section to be added in the future is the "Top Story" that treats the upcoming events by the means of news, reports, interviews, photos and clips.

In order to strengthen the link between the website and its users, we have created some pages on some of the social networks where you can follow our activities. You can access these networks by clicking the buttons placed under the website's header.

On BarackObama.ir, we have provided a place for a free flow of information as well as a place to enable Iranians, Americans and other English speaking users to talk about political, cultural, economical and international issues.
