Iran starts assisting to Garabagh conflict settlement

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Iran has claimed again of its interest to assist to settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Garabagh conflict.

Today in Baku Iranian ambassador Mammadbagir Bahrami to Azerbaijan stated that Iran’s aid in settlement of Garabagh problem began from the Tehran visit of Azerbaijani minister for foreign affairs Elmar Mammadyarov.

“This process started from the relevant consent of Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev,” Bahrami said.

Iran wants to use its potential for tackling of regional problems.

“OSCE Minsk Group has been dealing with the conflict over 18 years but has failed to settle it. Whether it was not able or did not want to do that, but the fact is that the problem still remains unsettled. Possibly, the co-chair countries watch over their own interests. Another issue is that regional problems should be settled by countries of the region themselves, and that is why we want to use our potential for assistance to fair solution of Garabagh matter,” Bahrami said.

At the same time he called the conflict settlement within territorial integrity of Azerbaijan the only fair way.

“Iran has always defended this position. The soon stability restores in the region the earlier its development starts. Fair solution of Garabagh conflict issue will bring favor to all countries of the region,” Bahrami stated.

Firstly... Yes, you wouldn't invade Armenia but they indirectly control 16% of Azerbaijan's internationally accepted boundaries. If another open armed conflict occurs it would be Azerbaijan that would be in need to move forces into the disputed territory. Armenia would attempt to open another land bridge as they did in the previous conflict to support the disputed region. That being said, the security forces present in the area are well-equipped and trained and possess heavy weaponry as well.

Secondly.. With an official secularist state point of view it is wrongful of you to bring religion into the picture by calling Azerbaijan a Muslim state and Armenia a Christian state (as they are secular in government also). The government and religion are distinct in both countries. At the ground level, the conflict is an ethnic one as boundaries are decided by ethnicities who identify themselves with particular nations secondly a territorial one. Azerbaijan was not in conflict in defense of Islam, it was in conflict in defense of its territorial integrity and in defense of ethnic Azeris.

You are the hypocrits, when it comes down to it you don't want to help Muslim Iranians and Palestinians against Zionists and Americans because you are "secular" but when you got a problem with Christian Russians and Armenians you suddenly expect Iranian help because you are "islamic".

This is rather a good summary of double standards and situational politics. One image is adopted after another depending on the forces at play. This is hypocrisy by definition. Iran is not born yesterday either but those that live in glass houses should not throw stones at others.
