Iran launches 10-day naval drill

In this exercise which began on Saturday, Iran's Navy will showcase naval forces' latest equipment, innovations and creativities.

Different classes of submarines, including Tareq and Ghadir, the newest ground-to-sea missile systems and torpedoes will be employed in the maneuvers.

Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari rejected reports about possible one-day closure of the Strait of Hormuz during the drill at a press conference on Thursday.

Sayyari added that although the Iranian forces are capable of accomplishing such a feat, the decision to close the Strait of Hormuz must be made by the leaders of the Islamic Republic's establishment.

Over the past years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

Iran has repeatedly clarified that its military might is merely based on the nation's defense doctrine of deterrence and poses no threat to other countries.

Iran Starts Massive Naval Wargames in Int'l Waters

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's naval forces started massive wargames in international waters in the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean on Saturday.

The naval maneuvers dubbed Velayat 90 are due to cover an area stretching from the East of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Aden for 10 days.

During the wargames, the Iranian naval forces will display their latest equipment, achievement and tactics.

Earlier, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari had said that the exercises will manifest Iran's military prowess and defense capabilities in the international waters, convey a message of peace and friendship to the regional countries, and test the newest military equipment among other objectives.

He said that the newest missile systems and torpedoes will be employed in the maneuvers, adding that the most recent tactics used in subsurface battles will also be demonstrated in the maneuvers.

Sayyari also said that Iranian destroyers, missile-launching vessels, logistic vessels, drones and coastal missiles will also be tested.

Iran stages several air, land and sea wargames each year to test its newly produced weapons and equipments.

In the last naval drills staged by the Iranian Army's Navy Force, a six-staged naval maneuver, codenamed Velayat 89, was conducted in the Strait of Hormuz and Northern Indian Ocean in May 2010.

Spokesman of the military drills Admiral Qassem Rostamabadi announced at the time that the Iranian Navy deployed destroyers, missile-launchers, heavy and light submarines and flight units in specified areas and provided security of shipping lines during the drills.

The second phase of the wargames pertained to confrontation against chemical attacks of the enemy through using locally-made equipment, Admiral Rostamabadi added.

Also home-made systems were used to successfully confront enemy's divers and guerillas who penetrated into Iranian coasts, the spokesman stated.

This is second time I see breadboard of some new vessel.Last time it was on some images posted by Catsoo.It looked like Iranian tondar class version.This could be third Iranian domestically build destroyer.

Western Chopper Shooed Away from Army's Drill Zone
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian warships shooed away the military chopper of a western country which was approaching the Iranian Navy's wargame zone, a senior Iranian commander stated.

"Yesterday, a chopper which belonged to the trans-regional countries tried to approach the region of Velayat 90 exercises, but it left the area when it received a serious warning after it ignored two other warning signals of our units," Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Navy Admiral Seyed Mahmoud Moussavi said.

Admiral Moussavi declined to mention any further details about the development, but the United States, Britain and France are the only trans-regional powers who have deployed troops in the region.

Iran's naval forces started massive wargames in international waters in the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean on Saturday.

Coming back from the holiday break, I expected that the news agencies would have several collections of images from the exercises. The fact that they don't is very surprising, especially given the wide array of documentation from past Velayat naval exercises. Maybe they're waiting until the end to release the entire collection rather then doing it in increments as they have in the past.

After wargames, Esmaili commander of air defence forces announced due to security reasons and secret equipments used in this wargames we couldnt publishe reports, images and videos about it.

In all wargames there are parts and equipments that no image and video of them is published.Certainly What we see of wargames isnt all of them.

The commandeered UAV is a great example of classified IRI military capabilities. Not to mention a large measure of Iranian psyops on what is and isn't to keep opponents guessing.

If you did, pass on the news and its source! Although it is possible to make the Persian Gulf ASHM a submarine launched missile.

Good find M-ATF.My lack of knowledge about this ship is evident.But still why would they put a mock up of the ship sunk down twenty five years ago at this press conference??That does not look logic.Could it be that Iran is building new Sahand like they did in the past with Paykan??
