Iran launches advanced Jamaran destroyer
« on: February 19, 2010, 09:57:04 AM »

Iran's Navy on Friday took the delivery of the first indigenously designed and developed guided missile destroyer Jamaran.

The Mowdge Class vessel has a displacement of around 14,000 tonnes and is equipped with modern radars and electronic warfare capabilities.

Jamaran, a multi-mission destroyer, can carry 120-140 personnel on board and is armed with a variety of anti-ship and surface-to-air missiles.

It has a top speed of up to 30 knots and has a helipad.

The vessel has also been equipped with torpedoes and modern naval cannons. The destroyer's launch marks a major technological leap for Iran's naval industries.

More ships in its class are under construction.

^^^That's what i thought, it seems to be a typo, an extra zero seems like an easy mistake.

Anyway, congratulations to Iran, this is a big deal, hopefully we'll finally see some official high quality photos of this leviathan.

This is about the 5th or 6th time they've said this ship has entered service.

I think the difference is between "entering service" and construction being finished. Before now it was completing trials or whatnot.

Observations

- No visible SAM system (though the dish above the bridge does look a lot like some versions of the HQ-7 radar)
- Armament - 1 76 mm cannon, 2 20 mm cannons, both mounted fore of the bridge 1 Fath-40 cannon mounted stern. 4 Noor AShM mounted midship, triple 6 12.75 torpedo tubes

Whats the fire control system for these guns?

It seems the launch is premature. This ship will be a sitting duck w/o any viable AD system.

Definitely room for modification and addition of "aftermarket" systems like what happened on the newest Sina boats.

Comrades I just posted a half dozen pics of the launching in the Navy Section on the Mowj Corvette Thread if you would like to see some nice close up shots.

I notice you posted about the I-band radars used, do you know anything else about the radars on the ship. The main mast radar appears to be the same as on the Alvand, but there's a new one mounted on top of the bridge, thoughts?

Also, in the 2nd video, check out the number of the ship that the AB-212 lands on, then compare it to the number on the deck during the unveiling (hint: they're different)  :P

In this pic you can clearly see the Radar systems of the Jamaran which includes:
1. A large Radar dish very similar in appearance to AWS-1 originally fitted to Alvand class but does seemed to be improved
2. No less than 2 I-Band Radar Navigational systems (of various sizes)

Well I'm not sure about the one above the bridge, could be Fire-Control Radar but it doesnt appear to move so I'm not sure...the Larger one may be an upgraded AWS-1 which would be good because the original radar had pretty good Surface/Air search range so its a good starting point.

No, Iranian leaders just like to give different names to the same project to confuse people.

Good Catch Ayyash! The boat in the video has the serial number of 57 as opposed to the 76 on the boat in the still pics which means one of 2 things,

Either there are really 2 Mowj that we havent been able to see on Google Earth (which doesnt necessarily mean anything lol) or Iran re-serialed the boat at some point for possible propaganda reasons (to make people think they are 2 instead of one) as many on the net claim Iran has done with IRIAF

The navy is slowly improving. These are great signs. The more pressure, the more Iran's military, navy, and airforce, will get stronger.
The rest of Kurdistan will not be Iranian, it will be part of Turkey and Syria.

Separatist and Pan Kurd nationalists die in hell!

That is now the question..we know Iran has built at least one and has claimed they have been constructing of another (2007) and from the video it would certain APPEAR to be two boats but that would mean Iran built and launched the 2nd boat in exactly 3 years while the first took now some 10 years to build so I'm a lil skeptical but it is possible.

From what i heard, the problem came from being unable to procure a powerplant, that was was what delayed the Jamaran, so if they solved that problem, it is conceivable that it would be completed sooner.
