Iran Builds Its Second Destroyer

The Islamic Republic of Iran's navy is constructing its second modern destroyer, a senior official said.
Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that the destroyer, which enjoys capabilities in surface-to-air, surface-to-surface and sub-surface operations, will join the Iranian fleet soon.
The Jamaran-2 is also capable of offering fuel to helicopters, he added.
The official said that the Jamaran-1 warship destroyer is present in the war games which are underway in Iran's southern waters.
The Iranian navy launched a 10-day massive naval exercise in the international waters on Saturday.
The naval drills, dubbed Velayat 90, cover an area of 2,000 km stretching from the east of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Aden.
Different classes of submarines, including Tareq and Ghadir, the newest ground-to-sea missile systems and torpedoes have been deployed in the maneuvers.

Iran to soon build second destroyer

Iran will soon complete building the second domestically manufactured destroyer, named the Jamaran-2. The work is under completion, the Iranian navy commander Habibollah Sayyari said on Saturday.
Habibollah Sayyari added that other destroyers will be also manufactured, but an exact date can not be determined for the destroyers to join the fleet, IRNA news agency reported.
On October 9, 2011, the Jamaran, the first domestically manufactured destroyer, was dispatched on a mission in international waters.
The mission of the fleet was to provide security for Iranian merchant vessels and commercial ships in the Gulf of Aden.
The Jamaran can carry helicopters. It is equipped with torpedoes. It is 94 meters long and weighs over 1,500 tons. The warship is capable of engaging in surface, air, and undersea warfare.

Jamaran-2 is fitted with AESA radar. Jamaran-3 and Jamaran-4 are under construction in Khorramshahr and Bandar-Abbas.
