Iran isn't so much modifiying the KILOs..its overhaulling them, which is very much needed since none of them have been overhaulled since they were deliverd from Russian 15+ years ago so Iran started overhauling the first one a year or so ago but I'm not sure if its operational yet. From the video of it (look up on youtube its there somewhere) it appears to be a mainly structural overhaul though its likely Iran is replacing some of the worn electronics and the batteries (something Iran had a big problem since they've had the KILOs)

That much is not known...it was reported that Russia may be helping them with the overhauls so the subs dont have to go all the way to Russia for repairs but how much Iran is doing on its own and how much help they are getting from outside sources is unknown

They maybe studying it to help advanced their indigenous projects but I doubt Iran wants to reverse-engineer the KILO...because while the KILO is a dangerous submarine, the Persian Gulf is a terrible place for submarines, even a KILO...thats why the Saudis still havent bought any Submarines after all these years that Iran has had them...the Gulf is much more shallow than lets say the Arabian Sea/Indian Ocean where the KILOs would be more useful...not to mention such an effort would be very costly and would take alot of time (not to mention thats its a waste of time R&D an export variant of the KILO which isnt considered very modern anymore)..

Iran might be getting help from India since they have Kilo subs...   warm water country as opposed to Russia cold water country...   probally get assistance from both countries.

:)   my data sheets on the Kilo...

I also included a cut away of a type of Kilo....  interior pictures are not Iranian...

Respectfully & Abidingly,
Simple Bubba

Peace to You and Yours...

TEHRAN,Iran -- Iran's state TV is reporting the country's navy relaunched one of its Russian-made submarines after repairing its systems with locally-made replacement parts.
Iran has tried to build a self-sufficient military program since 1992.
The Tuesday report says that navy personnel overhauled the Taregh, one of its three Kilo class submarines, replacing 18,000 components including radar-evading cover, engine parts, propellers and radars.
State TV showed video of the relaunch from a dry dock in an Iranian port .
Iran added the three Kilo class submarines to its underwater fleet in early 1990s soon after it founded its submarine unit. Several smaller Iranian-built submarines have also been deployed by its navy.

I read rumors that IRIN discovered some sensors on Tariq Iranian Kilo sub between the soft and hard shell during the overhaul.

Apparently these "sensors" were reporting the movement all the movement and communications of the sub to the Russians!

^^^

I made a statement a few years back that in case of war between Iran-Usa, the Russian would probably give the location of these subs and other things to the Americans. I am suprised it took Iran this long to find these "sensors".  :o
Is it not obvious the Russian would do such a thing?

This should tell alarm anyone who insists on purchasing new military hardware from abroad, be it Russians, US or even European union.

I direct this specifically to those who demand Iran to buy those aircraft or that aircraft from the Russians. It is 100.00 lost of precious funds that could be directed to domestic resources for R&D to strengthen the local defence industries to produce same or even better technologies that would enhance Iranian defence. better to have a less sophisticated hardware than a very sophisticated hardware when your enemy knows every move you make.

Catsoo, where did you read them?

It makes really sense to install those sensors to subs. If this is true, Iran should immediately cancel every single military agreement with the Russians.

Well, as I said, there is no official word on this but rather rumors. It is not so far fetched after all.

All Saudi jet fighters purchased from the US have their radars modified to mal-function or not function at all against the Zionists.
You can only extrapolate such realities and imagine what is possible and why?

The least we can do, instead of insisting on a brand new fighter project each year is to learn from Izzies,
Step by Step, first buying them, then assembling them, then producing them, then designing them, that way the case with malfunctions we have witnessed in HQ2 or this alleged case with kilos (i am really not sure, it could be an auxiliary transmitter for a net based warfare or something taken as a spying device) simply would be pointless.

I told already, never trust russians.
And now they wont technolgy transfer from iran
If Iran will do so, shame to military leaders!

Lets hope Iranian engineers inspected Tor-M1 Systems very well.

Russia should shove the S-300 systems right in theyr ass.

JohnnyTurk,

On what do you base that strange claim on? The contract between Iran and Russia for the 29 Tor M1 and 750 9M338 missiles is well documented by both public and government sources.

I'm interested too for this strange info,I never heard before,Iran buy TOR from Russia, and for the record  Russia use Belarus as proxie in many case for arms transfer and when it cames to political sensitive and high tech weapons ,if Russia wan't sell something I'm almost 100% sure Belarus wan't either,so be sure that any transfer of political sensitive weapons from Belarus need Russian aprove first.
