can anyone tell me the context of the video posted above?
do we know who that was they were arresting?

I think to liken Zionists to NAZIs is to give Zionists too much credit.
Following WWI, Germany was forced to surrender its ability to defend itself, and was crushed by debt and hyperinflation. The National Socialists were able to save Germany by scrapping the economic system based on borrowing currency against gold and adopting a complex barter system of sorts, and creating their own brand new currency for trade within Germany, backed only by the labor and production of goods within Germany. This largely solved many of the crushing economic problems of Germany and made the NAZIs wildly popular.
Almost needless to say, these moves were NOT popular with the Jewish community in Germany and abroad, whose influence on economics and politics were rooted in their bankers and businesspeople. Without maintaining those positions in western civilization, they would be forced to integrate into their communities or live once again as isolated, powerless minority. Many Jewish bankers subsequently attempted to rally for a send war against Germany to annihilate the Germans once and for all out of fear of the idea that Germany, by sidestepping international bankers and businesspeople, could achieve economic freedom once more, would be the death knell of Jewish control. The Jewish bankers were largely responsible for funding WW2 in an attempt to mobilize the World to force the NAZI party out of power, and if possible, eliminate Germany as a nation altogether.
Germany's reaction was to eliminate the Jewish bankers and businesspeople from Germany because of the fear of a concerted effort to destroy Germany from within. They decided the only sure way would be if they kicked the Jews out of Germany. And in the chaos of the following war, countless extrajudicial killings occurred which were indeed heinous crimes. But the point remains that Germany was fighting for the return of economic and political sovereignty of their own people more than any other matter.
If that cameraman was not present, who knows what could have been done to those people. The point is Israel is a nation whose very existence is rooted in enslavement or genocide of their neighbors. Germany was returning economic freedom and sovereignty to its people. There is no comparison.
"The sword is victorious over money, the master-will subdues again the plunderer-will. . . A power can be overthrown only by another power, not by a principle, and only one power that can confront money is left. Money is overthrown and abolished by blood. Life is alpha and omega . . . It is the fact of facts within the world-as-history."

I first came across this clip in Gilad Atzmon’s web site at;

However these are some contexts that I have managed to find on this story;

This video caught my attention this afternoon, but it sure isn’t an isolated incident against Palestinians in Israel.

In the video, Israeli police appear to be attacking and brutalizing a Palestinian man in Jaffa in order to evict him and his family from a vacant property in which they sheltered.

According to the Jerusalem Post, Sameer Kassem, the 34 years old man in the video, suffers two black eyes, a broken nose and a bruised rib following the incident, which was filmed by an activist and uploaded to the web on Thursday.

Israeli police assulted Kassem while he was holding on to his 4 years old daughter, Police later brutally assulted his wife and pushed her to the ground (seen at minute 00:30 in the video).
The attack by the police seems to be unprovoked, the Palestinian family doesn’t attempt to resist. This is one sided violence from the Israeli police.
The video speaks for itself, watch:

Earlier today, I read in Ha’aretz that doezens of settlers attacked an Israeli army patrol in the West Bank, the report continues:
Soldiers who were called to the scene were able to detain one of the attackers, but he managed to escape.
I am sure if it was a Palestinian in this case, it would be different and ugly. Even when a Palestinian man tries to defend his family from attacking settlers, he is killed by Israeli army.
Everyone in Israel enjoy equal citizenship, except if they were Palestinians or Non-Jews.

First of all, let’s all get our facts right its Occupied Palestine NOT Izraeli. It has been so for an extensive record of over six decades of successive Sociopathic Izraeli governments enforcing institutionalized discrimination policies favoring Israeli violence, occupation, brutality, dispossession, and humiliation of Palestinian people, all are well documented .All people deserve to live in freedom, democracy, and dignity, and have their will respected by the world, except for the Palestinians. Instead we have “Palestinian state” that lacked all the conditions of a viable state including sovereignty, independence, controlled borders, contiguity, and economic viability. “It definitely does not scream peace” it should scream FREEDOM!!! As people in the Middle East are liberated from the yoke of repression and dictatorship, and as they begin to enjoy the fruits of freedom and democracy. The U.S. Policies towards the conflict are being exposed for what they really are, the internationally prohibited weapons that kill Palestinians are made in the U.S. and paid for by the U.S. ,the funds that build the settlements that dispossess the Palestinians, and aid the settlers that daily brutalize Palestinians are sent by America the vetoes that shield Israel from any enforcement of international law or condemnation of its war crimes and illegal acts are American, In short U.S. aids and abets the Israeli crimes.

Five sisters killed in Gaza while they slept

Five sisters killed in Gaza while they slept

Israel's target was the mosque next door. But the rocket attack claimed the lives of innocent children

By Donald Macintyre and Said Ghazali
Tuesday, 30 December 2008

The five Palestinian sisters were fast asleep when a night-time Israeli airstrike hit the next-door mosque in Gaza. One of the walls collapsed on to their small asbestos-roofed home and they were all killed in their beds. The eldest sister, Tahrir, was 17 years old, the youngest, Jawaher, just four.

"They grow up day after day and night after night. Within a second, I have lost them," the girls' father, Anwar Balousha, said yesterday. The 37-year-old, along with another three of his children, was himself injured in the attack on the densely populated Jabalya refugee camp.

The funerals of the sisters – Tahrir, 17; Ikram, 15; Samar, 12; Dina eight; and Jawaher, four – were attended by family members and thousands of mourners. But with space running out in the cemetery, the five girls had to be buried in just three graves, one for the eldest and the others forced to share.

Mr Balousha wept down the phone, saying he felt "how a father who lost his five daughters would feel". With recorded readings from the Koran audible in the background, along with occasional explosions in the distance, he added: "It is the will of Allah. We are believers in God."

Amid the pile of rubble that was the Balousha home yesterday, three torn blankets could be seen poking out from the ruins along with a painted blue iron, a broken brown cupboard and a baby's bed.

The Israeli military said it had targeted the next-door mosque because it was a "known gathering place" of Hamas adherents. It said four gunmen were inside it at the time of the attack. The mosque was named Imad Akel after the former leader of the Hamas military wing.

As Israeli strikes continued, the uncle of the dead sisters said the family had been innocent victims. "We are not those who are firing rockets against Israel," Ibrahim Balousha said. "We are just people, human beings and not animals."

The Balousha family had moved out of their house when the Israeli bombing started on Saturday but they had decided to return "to meet their fate" in the words of the dead girls' uncle. He said that three missiles had been used in the airstrike at around 11.20pm on Sunday night and that hundreds of neighbours had arrived to help in the wake of the carnage.

After the funeral, 16-year-old Iman, who was briefly buried in the rubble of the family home but survived, described her unlucky siblings' dying moments. "I told my sisters, you will be martyrs, this is the end."

Her grieving uncle said that Hamas had taken advantage of the funeral to chant slogans including "Vengeance, Vengeance". Shouts of "Bomb Tel Aviv" were also heard. But Ibrahim Balousha said he had given the militant group short shrift. "I told them, this is a funeral and not a rally."

Times were already tough for the family of refugees even before the latest tragedy. The girls' father is unemployed for 11 months of the year, picking up work selling Ka'ak bread around Ramadan. The family depend on food rations from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency and a $40 (£27.50) monthly handout. "The story is almost the same for decades," Ibrahim Balousha said: "Intifada and miseries, poverty and catastrophes."

UNRWA spokesman Christopher Gunness said: "The killing of these young girls is another tragic illustration that this bombardment is exacting a terrible price on innocent civilians. As with the killing of UNRWA students on Saturday we hope there will be a thorough and impartial and transparent investigation.

"Most important of all there has to be accountability. We need to know if international law was violated and if so, by whom," he added.

The UN yesterday issued a "conservative" estimate of the number of civilians killed in three days of unprecedentedly fierce aerial bombardment, putting the death toll at 62. It is a deliberately conservative estimate because it excludes all men in the Gaza City area to ensure that it does not accidentally include uniformed personnel.

The Palestinian Centre of Human Rights said that "most" of the more than 300 casualties were civilian but their tally includes Hamas policemen. It also said some bodies had still to be identified because they were so badly disfigured and that its field officers – who aim to chart every Palestinian casualty – are facing "extreme difficulties in visiting some areas, particularly those under multiple bombardment.

The Israeli military insists that it is doing its utmost to prevent civilian casualties but repeatedly points out that Hamas regularly and "cynically and specifically" uses locations in heavily built-up areas.

EU blasts Israel on discrimination
Thu Dec 29, 2011 9:42PM GMT

Thousands of Arabs in Israel attend a demonstration to mark Land Day in the town of Arrabe, near the coastal city of Haifa on March 30, 2011.

European Union (EU) envoys in Israel have criticized Tel Aviv's maltreatment of Arabs living in Israel, a report on the human rights violations says.

"While the international community is focused predominantly on restarting the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, we should see Israel's treatment of its minorities as a core issue, not second tier to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," the confidential 27-page study obtained by AFP on Thursday said.

The report says Arabs living in Israel are worse off than non-Arabs in terms of income, education, housing and access to land.

A draft of the report dated November 2011 stated that Israel's “security policies” clearly target Arabs.

The EU often publishes reports on worsening human rights situation in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, but this is its first report on the 1.37 million Arabs that make up more than 20 percent of Israel's population.

The Arabs in Israel are the remainder, or descendants, of Palestinians who did not leave their land after “Israeli Declaration of Independence” in 1948, known as Yawm an-Nakbah, or day of the catastrophe among the Palestinians.

In 1948, the Tel Aviv regime forced 760,000 Palestinians out of their homeland to the West Bank and Gaza Strip, neighboring Arab states as well as to many other countries in the world, and hundreds of Palestinian villages were depopulated and destroyed.

Israeli fighter details 1948 genocide

Watch the video at the link

Sat Dec 31, 2011 7:1PM GMT

A former Israeli soldier has revealed Israel's atrocities, ethnic cleansing, massacres, colonization and racism carried out against Palestinians in the 1948 war.

In a video testimony, Amnon Neumann said that he participated in the expulsion of unarmed Palestinians from their villages in southern Israel.

Admitting his crimes, Neumann described that he helped kill people, burn the villages, and chase off women and children.

"This is very clear. We came to inherit the land. Who do you inherit from? If the land is empty you inherit it from no one. The land was not empty when we inherited it," he said.

The Israeli veteran, who was a former Palmach fighter, said the reason for the Nakba of 1948 was "the Zionist ideology."

"Like all ultranationalist movements, Zionism requires the murder and expulsion of people and the destruction of all evidence of their existence. Those not destroyed must be permanently subjugated by the ethnicity in charge," he explained.

Israel's 1948 occupation of Palestine, known as the Nakba Day or "the day of the catastrophe" displaced some 700,000 Palestinians, forcing them to flee to different countries.

Tel Aviv is unwilling to compromise on the right of return for Palestinian refugees of the 1948 war and their descendants.

Palestinians have long asserted that the refugees have a moral and legal right to return to the lands they were forced to abandon during the Israeli-Arab wars in 1948 and 1967.

'Judaization of al-Quds unacceptable'
Tue Jan 3, 2012 6:51PM GMT

A senior Iranian lawmaker has condemned the recent bill passed by the Israeli Knesset, calling the al-Quds (Jerusalem) Judaization project as unacceptable.

Head of the Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Tuesday that “as the first Muslim Kiblah, al-Quds (Jerusalem) will forever remain the capital of Palestine.”

The Iranian lawmaker made the remarks in reaction to the Knesset bid to declare al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the “united capital” of the entire Jewish population of the world.

He further called on the Islamic nations and the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to adopt a strong stance against the bill, which aims to justify the enforcement of demographic transformation in the city by evacuating its Arab residents and further expanding the construction of the Jewish settlements.

“This is not the first time that the Zionist regime [of Israel] makes such an effort but such a regime whose existence is completely illegitimate and unacceptable cannot do this,” Boroujerdi.

The Iranian lawmaker then pointed to the Velayat 90 naval drills and said the maneuver has sent a warning message to those employing the “literature of sanction” against Iran.

Boroujerdi went on to say that the 10-day drill, which was launched on December 24, 2011, served to show the Islamic Republic's defensive might.

The Velayat 90 naval drill took place in line with a recent directive by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who instructed Iranian Armed Forces to maintain total readiness to defend the nation against any potential threats.

Iran maintains that the maneuvers are defensive in nature and intend to convey a message of peace and friendship to regional countries. It has also extended a public invitation to regional states to conduct joint naval drills with Iranian forces.

Iran's Speaker Urges Int'l Reaction to Israel's Judaization Attempts in Quds

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani condemned a recent Israeli Knesset bill which announced the Holy Quds as the capital of the Zionist regime, and called on the international community to break silence and give a resolute response to Tel Aviv's illegal and aggressive move.

"Zionists' continued attacks on the innocent Palestinian people's holy Muslim and Christian sanctities under the silence and inaction of the international community and (the support provided by) the regime's international backers have emboldened the Zionist regime's Knesset to present a plan to announce the Holy Quds as an indispensible Jewish capital," Larijani said in a message to his counterparts throughout the world.

He called the move as part of Israel's policy of occupation and racism, and described it as a flagrant violation of the rights of an occupied nation and a clear insult to the sanctities and sanctuaries of divine religions.

"In fact, the new aggression of the Zionists is the result of the international community's years of ignorance towards the Zionist regimes' occupation of Palestine and violation of human rights," Larijani stated, and warned that Tel Aviv is seeking to change the identity of the sanctuaries of divine religions.

On Sunday, Iran strongly condemned an Israeli Knesset decision to Judaize the Holy Quds (Jerusalem), and called it a violation of the Palestinian nation's historical and eternal rights.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast in a statement on Sunday strongly rejected the Zionist regime's parliament ratification which called the Holy Quds as the eternal and indivisible capital of Israel.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that this dangerous trend is another step towards the full Judaization of Islamic sanctities and once again demonstrates the Zionist regime's racist nature and desecration of the sanctuaries of divine religions," Mehman-Parast said.

He added that the decision also shows that Tel Aviv is confident about the silence of the world community and the lack of proper practical reaction by the regional countries to such moves.

Mehman-Parast also called on the entire international and regional bodies and organization, including the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), to give a resolute response to Tel Aviv's act which is also a violation of human rights.

On November 1, Israel's inner cabinet had decided to speed up construction of homes for Jews in Arab East Quds (Jerusalem) and in other nearby settlements to punish the Palestinians for winning membership in the UN cultural agency, UNESCO.

Since then, Israel has issued announcements for 2,057 new homes in Arab East Quds and 1,241 in the West Bank, official figures show.

At least 200,000 Israelis live in a dozen settlement neighborhoods in East Quds (Jerusalem), which was captured by Israel in 1967 and annexed in an illegal, aggressive move never recognized internationally.

The Palestinians see the Holy Quds as the capital of their promised state and oppose any attempt to extend Israel's control over the part of the city that was captured in the 1967 Six Day War.

Jerusalem Mayor Promotes New Boundary Plan

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat is promoting new municipal boundaries that would swap land, leaving some Arab neighborhoods outside the city.

By Chana Ya'ar
First Publish: 12/22/2011, 7:15 PM

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat is promoting a plan for new municipal boundaries that would swap land, leaving some Arab neighborhoods outside the city.

Barkat met with senior religious Zionist figures in an attempt to persuade them to support the plan, which includes a new security fence and abandoning the land on the other side of the barrier.

Arutz Sheva has discovered that Barkat met with Rabbi Haim Druckman on Wednesday, and Rabbi Shlomo Aviner Thursday to discuss the Jerusalem land swap plan.

According to a source, Rabbi Druckman expressed source for the plan, which he explained would enlarge the capital and leave the Arab neighborhoods "outside." Rightist sources expressed dismay, however, contending, "The character and unity of the city are at stake."

Meanwhile, the Knesset's Ministerial Committee on Legislation is preparing to debate a measure that would declare Jerusalem to be the united capital of the Jewish People and the State of Israel.

The "Jerusalem Bill," sponsored by National Union Knesset Member Aryeh Eldad, is intended to "fight anyone who questions the city's link to the Jewish people, the MK explained.

"In a time when some people advocate making Jerusalem the capital of Palestine, an international capital or other such nonsense, we think there's a place to declare it as the capital of only one people and one country. It has never been anything else," Eldad said.

The bill is backed by Jewish Home MK Zevulun Orlev and would be processed as an amendment to the Basic Law, Jerusalem, Capital of Israel.

In God We Trust, Not the Media

Warning:Source is Zionist

The following excerpt is from the best-seller PR book, For Immediate Release, by Ronn Torossian, CEO of 5WPR:

I lived in Israel for nearly two years after graduating from college. Along with two friends, I formed an organization called Yerushalayim Shelanu (Our Jerusalem). My two co-founders are today among the youngest members of the Israeli Parliament (Knesset) and rapidly rising political stars: Danny Danon (current Knesset Deputy Speaker) and Yoel Hasson. In 1997 one of the first activities we undertook was participating in an action where Jews moved into a home that had been purchased legally in an area of eastern Jerusalem.

The neighborhood’s construction provoked an international storm in September 1997, and the U.S. pressured Israel not to go ahead with the plan. The pressure was rebuffed by then (and current) Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and backed by then Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert. I conducted hundreds of worldwide media interviews at the homes of the new Jewish residents of the area. All of them were done as I held an Israeli flag, with the Temple Mount (where the recognizable Dome of the Rock is located) in the background. That way, no matter how reporters editorialized about this “disputed” area of Jerusalem, viewers could see just how close this territory was to the Jerusalem they recognized. No matter what the reporters said, the pictures didn’t lie. As of 2011, more than 70 Jewish families live there and conditions on the ground in that area of Jerusalem have changed, with Israeli schools, bus service to the Western Wall, and other benefits making the area connected to western Jerusalem.

This effort, while effective, was a drop in the bucket. Israel is a young country and it often learns things painfully. A justified cause is not enough to be right these days, either in politics or in business. Anyway, being right does not help you frame the debate nor does it keep you from being constantly on the defense. It’s not enough to simply convey a message—you need people to listen. Preparation for war includes a PR battle plan because PR is a crucial element of any war today. Having worked with and for the Likud Party, the mayors of Jerusalem and of Tel Aviv, Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Israel Ministry of Tourism, and a slew of other Israeli government officials and offices for many years, I know that Israel has so much rich history and many incredible attractions, from the Bible to its beaches. It needs to put them to use actively and to employ a comprehensive, systematic “PR machine” that generates regular positive content.

Israel also needs to make its own case, because that case is not being made widely, often, or clearly enough. The advice I have for Israel stands for any organization or group with an “underdog” status or that is suffering the consequences of being misunderstood. The following points are useful for any brand or business:

Make your own case. Be proactive and passionate in educational PR efforts. In Israel’s case, for instance, there should be a concerted PR effort to continually refute “moral equivalency” myths that are perpetuated in many corners of the press. It shouldn’t be saved only for a crisis.
Argue on your strengths, not your weaknesses. Harmful framing by the media or others can be handled effectively only with counter-framing—presenting your narrative without debating the negative frame (thereby giving it credibility) or trying to justify yourself against it. Israel needs to talk about how it made “the desert bloom.” From its founding in 1948, it transformed a land that is 65 percent desert into a country rich in diversity and teeming with technology—Intel, Microsoft, and IBM have all developed robust, profitable, and innovative businesses in the country.
Consistent and united PR. There is nothing more counterproductive and irritating to a spokesperson than having to compete with a colleague who is operating with a different message. This is the case with Israel—spokespeople for the state often speak at cross-purposes with the press and contradict each other.
Act with rapidity. Israel is agile and dynamic. It can use this to its advantage. In PR terms, Israel can change key messages quickly and deftly when necessary. The ability to respond quickly has many benefits.
Use social media frequently. Social media shouldn’t be used only as an emergency channel or to impart pearls of wisdom a few times a year. Social media should be used on a daily basis, and in a positive way. In the long run, it is the daily actions of a brand that determine its overall image.

Ronn Torossian is the CEO of 5WPR, a Top 25 PR Agency and author of Amazon best-selling PR book “For Immediate Release: Shape Minds, Build Brands, and Deliver Results with Game-Changing Public Relations,” which is available for purchase here. The book was referred to by Israeli MK Danny Danon as the “best book ever written regarding Israel’s PR.”

the settlers burned the Palestinian land... not the other way around! Why would they say its "Izraeli land" when clearly Palestinians are getting shot at right in front of their homes while their land is burning???

Israel AG against prosecuting authors of book justifying killing of non-Jews

Authors describe book as discussion of Jewish law on the conditions under which it is permissible to kill a non-Jew in times of war and peace.

By Tomer Zarchin | May.25, 2012 | 1:12 AM | 9

Warning: Source is Zionist

Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein is tending toward not prosecuting the author or endorsers of the controversial book "Torat Hamelech," Haaretz has learned.

The book, written in 2009 by Rabbi Yitzhak Shapira and Rabbi Yosef Elitzur, was endorsed by two other rabbis, Yitzhak Ginzburg and Dov Lior. The authors describe it as a discussion of Jewish law on the conditions under which it is permissible to kill a non-Jew in times of war and peace.

The book's publication led to the launch of a criminal investigation against the four rabbis for incitement to racism and violence.

According to one statement in the book, "when we come upon a non-Jew who is not keeping the seven Noahide laws, and we kill him out of concern for the keeping of the seven laws, it is not prohibited."

Weinstein is expected to explain that he is basing his decision on limiting the use of criminal law as a tool to deal with offenses involving freedom of expression, particularly in light of the fact that the statements were made as part of a religious tract, as general statements, and the book mentions neither the word "Arab" nor the word "Palestinian."

Weinstein is also expected to base his decision on the difficulty in proving the intent of the authors or the endorsers to act violently toward Arabs.

Ethicist Prof. Asa Kasher told Haaretz on Thursday: "I respect the sensitivity the judicial system has toward freedom of expression, but I do not share the way freedom of expression is limited when there is mortal danger involved."

Kasher, together with the Reform Movement's Israel Religious Action Center and others, was among the petitioners last month to the High Court of Justice demanding that the authors and endorsers of the book be indicted. "We must learn the lessons of the murder of Yitzhak Rabin more energetically than we see here," he said.

The petitioners, who say it is clear that when the book says "non-Jews" it is referring to Arabs, are also asking the High Court to ban distribution of the book and to hold a disciplinary hearing for Lior, who is the chief rabbi of Kiryat Arba and Hebron, a state-funded position, for endorsing the book. Kasher said rabbis who write texts have students and followers who take them with the utmost seriousness and see them as directives.

"A slippery slope has been created here of discussions about death, thoughts about death and plans about death - murder. We saw this slope before Rabin's murder where the judicial and societal systems did not come to their senses in time," Kasher said.

A “cancer” in the body of the nation? More than half (52%) of the Jews agree with the statement of Member of Knesset Miri Regev that the unauthorized Africans living in Israel are a cancer in the body of Israel. Only 19% of the Arab respondents agreed with the statement.

Are all the foreign workers undesirable? Here we found huge gaps in the positions of the Jewish respondents: there is a majority that is moderately not disturbed or not disturbed at all, by the presence of workers from South America (51%), Eastern Europe (59%), Thailand (53%), and the Philippines (61%). However, a majority is disturbed by the presence of foreigners from African countries such as Ghana or Nigeria (62%), Sudan or Eritrea (73%), and by Palestinian workers (73%). No gaps turned up among the Arab respondents: regarding each of the aforementioned groups, there was a majority of 70%–90% who were moderately not disturbed or not disturbed at all, by the presence of the workers.

What is the support level for the demonstrations by south Tel Aviv residents against the presence of the Africans? An overwhelming majority of the Jews— 83%—expressed support for the demonstrations. Among the Arabs, the support stood at only 25%.

And what about identification with the violence that south Tel Aviv residents perpetrated against the Africans? Some 33.5% of Jewish respondents said they could identify with the use of violence (62% could not). As for the Arabs, 23% could identify with it (65.5% could not).

Israeli soldiers use Palestinians to train army dogs, activist says

Report claims IDF troops order West Bank residents to exit cars and wait, as dogs seek training explosive devices; army spokesman: Soldiers conduct searches to increase Israelis' safety.

Soldiers from an elite IDF canine unit have been confiscating Palestinian vehicles in order to train their explosive-detecting dogs, an activist monitoring the conduct of soldiers in checkpoints told Haaretz.

The unit in question is Oketz, directly subordinate to IDF command, and which, among other duties, trains dogs to locate weapons and explosives. Its training base is located in the Adam base west of Ramallah.

According to Tamar Fleischman, Oketz soldiers have been randomly stopping Palestinian vehicles in the last few weeks as they pass through the Jaba checkpoint, near the city of Ramallah.

The soldiers then reportedly order the passengers to exit and display their identification cards, with one soldier positioned with his weapon aimed at the Palestinians.

At that point, Fleischman said, a dog handler places an object inside the vehicle, which the dog is then sent to find, an receiving a treat upon its retrieval. The passengers then receive their IDs, and are allowed to return to the vehicle. The entire process usually takes around ten minutes.

Earlier this week, Fleischman reported that in one such session the dog was unable to locate the hidden object, prompting a soldier to crawl through the vehicle until it was found, with the passengers looking on as another soldier pointed his rifle at them.

According to Breaking the Silence, an NGO, which collects the testimonies of IDF soldiers serving in the occupied territories, the training of Oketz personnel and dogs using Palestinian vehicles has been performed in the past as well.

One testimony, given by a female dog handler, relates to the period from 2007 to 2009. She said that the soldiers were present at the checkpoints "only to train the dogs."

"We hide something in the case…like a rifle magazine. In the unit we use something called a snapir fin, a stainless steel canister holding explosives held in a net, that keeps material, but allows scent to filter out," she said, adding that the container holds the blast in case it's dropped, "so no one can get hurt."

The past dog handler said that Oketz soldiers take the vessel with them "to the checkpoints, and hide it in Palestinian vehicles and then the dog looks for it…. The justification for the action is 'deterrent,' the passengers don’t know we're really not inspecting the vehicle."

"This happens all year, even if it's raining outside," she said.

According to testimonials, the training isn't time-bound, with sessions sometimes lasting for an hour, sometime three.

In one instance, three of four dogs were loaded onto a pickup truck, and driven to a checkpoint near the Adam base. At the Na'alin checkpoint, used by both Israelis and Palestinians, soldiers would stop "every Arab passing by, even if his wife was giving birth."

"Countless settlers pass through there, but you would never inspect those vehicles, she said, adding that the dog handlers made sure to ask the passengers to remove Korans and prayer rugs from the vehicles, as they they would not be defiled by the dogs.

Speaking to Haaretz, Fleischman said that dog handlers have attempted to prevent her and other activists from filming the process from the other side of the checkpoint. In one instance, they did film, but the soldiers yelled out that they were being put at risk, adding that they had security clearance. They then stopped the training, and put the dog into a special cage, releasing him and resuming the session once Fleischman and the other activists walked away.

The IDF Spokesman's Office said in response that "following the appeal, the issue will be thoroughly examined. As a rule, the IDF conducts inspections in West Bank checkpoints as part of its routine activity, in an attempt to ensure the safety of Israel's citizens."
