About Imam Khomeini : "He brought Islam back on the political world map. He restored Islam as the philosophical and religious power, and set up Islam as an alternative for conscious and thinking people.

He name was originally Ruhallah Musawi and came to the world in Khomein, a village about ten mil from the city of Qum.
Ruhallah was only a few months old when his father, a mullah, was killed by a few rich landlords. They had put him to hate because he defended their farmer. His mother died when he was sixteen. Four years later, he came as a student of Qum.

An elderly friend had a daughter named Khadija. She was fourteen and Ruhallah twenty-one years. Ruhallah asked to marry her. But Khadija replied no, she would not marry a mullah, but rather find husband who works in government official in Tehran.
Later, she said: "At night I saw in a dream the Prophet Muhammad, his daughter Fatima and son in law Ali. An elderly woman was also in a dream.
The woman pointed to the three and said, 'They're not fond of you, Khadija, because you reject their son, Ruhallah'
So Khadija married yet with the student. She was a real character, energetic and charming woman, who followed her husband into exile when the Shah expelled him from Iran.

For Khomeini became the undisputed leader and spokesman for the millions of Iranians, who wanted to topple the Shah and create an Islamic society.
He was supervisor for the Islamic Revolution. And when it was victorious, and Khomeini returned, he was hailed by millions of people in a party and fun day that is missing counterpart in our time.
He was loved by millions of Muslims, but also by non-Muslims. For as he said: "We support all the oppressed in this world! Those who want dignity and freedom. "
He was hated by the superpower leaders and advocates of secular forces.

Khomeini declared, "Islam is the religion of the determined, seeking truth and justice! It is the way of those who struggle against imperialism and dominance of great powers. "
"Muslims must rise up and seek freedom," said he. "And fulfill the requirements that Islam places a system of government for the dignity and happiness."
He opposed those who believed that Islam is not a complete faith for all human life, but only parts of it.
"Islam has laws and regulations for society and guidelines for political life," he wrote, "while it teaches the person praying, other ceremonial acts and individual ethics.
If we only concentrate on the latter? It is to deprive Islam of its revolutionary and vital content. "
"How was  Islam back then   ?" He asked. "Were the scholars concerned with the 'religious', and left the 'social' to others? Were there different authorities for the 'religious purposes' and the 'social'?
under the Caliphs: Was 'religion' and 'politics' something away? "
'No,' answered Khomeini. "Islam is a unified whole, a complete guide for human life.
Political action is a religious duty, and so is social responsibility. Individual ethics concerns both, and rites are not alone. "

Khomeini reminded of this: "The Koran is the relationship between the verses that deal with social issues, and those that refer to ceremonial worship of God, more than a century to one!
"If you stick to prayer and other ritual act, Islam is just a shell!" He said.

And again: "All people have the same value, regardless of color or ethnic background. The God-conscious closest to him. "
"Do not create dissension and discord!"
    "Sunni and Shia are one."
"Muslims,  reconstruction the pride of Islam
“If one day the USA is pleased with us, then  we have to think twice what we have done wrong”.

Actually it shouldnt be like that.. First and foremost thought Emam Khomeini on Islam. He has repeatedly said that the Shia and Sunni are one. He has never been in attack on Sunni Islam.

He has never been in attack on Sunnits but it does not mean that Sunni people respected him as much as he respected them. I do not think that they even wanted to understand his ideas. You should remember all the things that happend after Iran became an Islamic republic. Do you think that the conduct of the regimes of the Sunni countries(for example Saudi Arabia,Iraq-it had a Sunni regime in that time- etc.) can be described as respect? Almost all countries was the enemies of Iran in that time. Only Shia Muslims and minority people from the other religions can understand him.

Just a correction:
Khomain is not 10 miles from Qom. It is something around 100 miles (air distance) from Qom and it lies in Markazi province close to Isfahan border (close to Golpayegan).

Indeed. I was about to correct this myself. Khomein is roughly 160km from Qom (proper) and is located in the Khomein county of Markazi province.
"My Lord, grant me success in struggling during failure, in having patience in disappointment, in going alone, in Jihad without weapons, in working without pay, in making sacrifice in silence, in having religious belief in the world, in having ideology without popular traditions, in having faith without pretensions, non-conformity without immaturity, beauty without physical appearance, loneliness in the crowd, and loving without the beloved knowing about it. My Lord, You teach me how to live; I shall learn how to die."

Well, I am Shia, actually. I recognize Ali (a.s.) as the rightful successor of Muhammad (pbuhahf) as was determined at Ghadeereh Khum and other places.

It's just that when Rasullallah (pbuhahf) says, "Oh Ali, you and I are of the same light ..." I interpret light figuratively and metaphorically. I don't think that the payghambar literally meant actual light like some Shia interpret it.

You thought I was a Sunnite because I quoted a Sunnite hadith. That's because I grew up in Amerika and I get my mahdab details mixed up sometimes.

But I do love imam Khomeini. I visited his tomb in February when I was visiting Tehran.

I think that many Sunnite respect the imam, but the Wahabi do not respect him.
