They already said this the Kovoshghar 5. I don't know why they renamed it...

You can see it here:

Head of Iran’s Space Agency (ISA) Hamid Fazeli says the country plans to send a living organism into space on board the Pishgam (Pioneer) satellite carrier in the near future.

“Iran’s Space Agency (ISA) is fully prepared to send the Pishgam satellite carrier bearing a bio-capsule with a living creature,” Fazeli said Sunday.

He expressed hope that the Pishgam satellite carrier, previously known as the Kavoshgar 5 (Explorer 5), would “soon” be successfully launched into space carrying a monkey.

Iran sent its first bio-capsule of living creatures into space in February 2010, using the indigenous Kavoshgar 3 carrier.

The country successfully launched its first indigenous data-processing satellite, Omid (Hope), into orbit in 2009.

As part of a plan to develop its space program, Iran also successfully launched its second satellite, dubbed Rassad (Observation), into the earth's orbit in June 2011. Rassad's mission was to take images of the Earth and transmit them along with telemetry information to ground stations.

Iran also launched its domestically-built Navid-e Elm-o Sanat (Harbinger of Science and Industry) satellite into orbit in February 2012. The records made by the telecom, measurement and scientific satellite could be used in a wide range of fields.

Iran is one of the 24 founding members of the United Nations' Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, which was set up in 1959.

In order for Iran to send a man to space, will they have to make a new carrier bigger than simorgh?

Yeah, very much heavier. These are the first rockets used by Russia, United States and China to send a man into space, you can compare them yourself:

1- Russian Vostok-K used to send first human into space (Yuri Gagarin). It was capable of putting almost 5 tonnes in LEO: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vostok-K

2- American Atlas LV-3B used to send first American to space. It was capable of putting 1.5 tonnes into LEO: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlas_LV-3B

3- Chinese Long March 2 used to send the first Chinese into space. It was capable of putting 8 tonnes into LEO: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_March_2

By comparison Simorgh is only capable of putting 100 kilogram and Safir just 50 kilogram.

Gents,

Just so you are all aware, there are rumors that the Kavoshgar-5 may not be so similar to it's predecessors but may be based on the Shahab-3/Ghadr missile. This would not be unprecedented since the first member of the Kavoshgar family was a modified Shahab-3.

Just food for thought.

Perhaps a demonstration of our improved ballistic systems; a rocket capable of carrying a payload anywhere in the world. I'll be looking out for this.
___

Iran is planning to send a monkey into space for a ten-day period starting January 31 which marks the 34th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, head of the Iranian space agency Hamid Fazeli said in Teheran on Tuesday.
He said two monkeys were trained for the flight. At present, they are in quarantine. A launch of a monkey will be the first stage of a manned flight which will be carried out by Iran in 5-8 years, Fazeli said.

Since 2009, Iran has launched three satellites and a capsule carrying a rat, turtles and worms. An attempt to launch a monkey into space ended in failure in 2011.

You should have posted this in the space thread.

Iran sends living creature into space.

--- The Islamic Republic of Iran has sent a living organism, a monkey, into space aboard an indigenously-designed and -developed bio-capsule as a prelude to sending humans into space.

Did the monkey live?  I saw one press report that only said the package "returned intact."

great news.  what will the monkey do to celebrate?  Extra bananas I hope.....

This achievement puts Iran another step closer to the goal of placing a man into space.  Ourrah, as we say in Russian.

Iran launches monkey into space

Kavoshgar rocket reached height of more than 75 miles and 'returned its shipment intact', news agency reports

Iran has launched a live monkey into space, the Fars news agency reported, lauding it as an advance in a missile and space programme that has alarmed the west and Israel.

There was no independent confirmation and there have been no announcements by western powers of any Iranian launch late last week.

Fars said the monkey was launched into space on a Kavoshgar rocket. The rocket reached a height of more than 75 miles (120km) and "returned its shipment intact", Fars reported.

Iran announced plans in 2011 to send a monkey into space, but that attempt was reported to have failed.

Western countries are concerned the long-range ballistic technology used to propel Iranian satellites into orbit could be used to launch atomic warheads. Tehran denies such suggestions and says its nuclear work is purely peaceful.

Ahmad Vahidi says other good space news are on the way.
The name of rocket used for sending monkey into space is "Pishgam" (means "Pioneer")

I congratulate to all Iranians, specially the engineers who made this possible.

We are witnessing good news from Iran almost everyday in diffrent fields. This is one of greater achievements. I am sure in future we will witnessing even greater achievements from a nation that stand on its own feet and start to believe in itself.

Where are those naggers who ridiculed Iran's space program? They were in awe of West to such a degree that they stop believing in themselves.

Let's pioneers in Iran's space technology show us the way, so we all can believe that "Yes We Can, even if we have to do it ALONE".
