I was searching the net and i came across this page: http://www.angelfire.com/md3/persian/dariush/

What do you guys think about this, do you agree with it? Do you think Azerbaijan belongs to Iran?

I think its up to the Azeris themselves to decide on their history, and origins.

Well they're already part of Iran (reffering to Iranian Azeris), but if you mean the country of Azerbaijan, then I really doubt they would "join" Iran. Right now the problem is the separatist who want to take away parts of Iran, not the other way around.

I was talking about separatists who operate in the three north-western provinces. There are four ethnic groups that have some separatists, these are: Kurds, Baluch, Azeris, and Arabs.

Also what do you mean Azeri's run Iran ?

It would change our demography too much. Most of Azerbaijan is extremely anti-religious. They have inherited this from the Soviet Union. Though their government always claims the Muslims in certain regions are "Iranian agents"... they feel very oppressed living there... so I guess if anyone would be interested it would be them...

They have a lot of oil and there is a lot of land that belongs to us. Their problem with secularism isn't a permanent one, their children could become religious.

And what would their incentive be for re-joining Iran?

Let's see.  They could join Iran so that the government in Tehran could come in, take over their oilfields, industry and natural resources, send friendly basiji militia to police them, and if they are good Iranian government could throw them a few bones now and then!! Like what Iran is doing in oil rich regions like Ahwaz!

The alternative is that they could stay the masters of their own domain, have freindly relations with almost all the countries in the world and thumb their nose at Ahmadi if they wanted too.

Oh Gee, this must be a tough choice for them!!!

we dont need other nations problems to come to us by rejoining
I am a pan-iranian but Azerbaijan republic is not an Iranian inhabited country mostly except for a few talysh that are oppressed by the government
