Kentucky Fried Chicken - Iran !

Amir Hussein Ali-Zadeh spent five years working going through the necessary motions needed to obtain the permits, but it probably was worth it. This week he opened the first Iranian branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken, the bread crumb coated deep-fried chicken, served with a side of fries and coleslaw, one of the culture symbols of the "Great Satan."

Ali-Zadeh emphasized his is an Iranian company, not American, and that it is called "Kentucky Fried Chicken - Iran." He added that he plans to add an additional 32 dishes to his menu to suit the Iranian taste.

I like the concept of fast food as it was originally conceived.

Unfortunately in the US it has become synonymous with low-quality, empty calories, and over-sized portions.

This needs to be avoided.
"The sword is victorious over money, the master-will subdues again the plunderer-will. . . A power can be overthrown only by another power, not by a principle, and only one power that can confront money is left. Money is overthrown and abolished by blood. Life is alpha and omega . . . It is the fact of facts within the world-as-history."

Unqualified bureaucrats who are unfit and incompetent who gave him the green light.

KFC is synonymous with minorities, diabetes and trash. It embodies American way of life. Barf.

They opened a mcdonalds in Iran too and shut it down sometime later. Same thing could occur here.

That was under Khatami, if I'm not mistaken. Rest assured this time such a thing won't happen ;).

I don't understand how KFC (an American company) has managed to do business with Iran when this sort of cooperation is in breach of the sanctions.

Furthermore, I don't get the big deal as Tehran already has many fast food chains like this that imitate western companies. The fact that it would be called "KFC - Iran" may suggest that it is not the same company located in the West. The owner has probably used the name and rebranded it without the company's (KFC) consent.

Either way I don't consider this a valid source.

People adopt foreign trends as a show of worldliness and sophistication. The problem is that people are idiots and tend to go for the worst of what the world has to offer. There are unfortunately many copies of US style fast food joints and arcades pupping up everywhere in Iran too.

Anyhow, call me old fashioned but I prefer Akbar Joojeh...

I dont mind having a foreign chain opens... but this kind of franchising chains that you have to pay for the name beside the chicks when you eat is simply too much capitalism for me.... and the problem that we tend to copy everything we see out there ... food, clothes ect ...

i also like traditional food... but we can also innovate in food ... food research ... the art of displaying food and attracting customers and even making worldwide chains is not nuclear engineering ... but a mixture of marketing and pepper

I agree. But this is rather the exception in Iran, all other fast food restaurants are local brands, and the name of a brand doesn't count as much as it does to western consumers.

I think this is a fact of cultural agression against Iran, if true. Even small compromises with westerners are a road to hell.

Iranian dishes are one of the best tasting dishes in the world, in my opinion. I am wondering why we should even consider to have KFC or any other foreign fast foods in Iran. Can't we have our own fast foods with Iranian dishes. Why do we have to borrow ideas from west. I tried KFC once here in U.S and it was nasty. I hardly eat in fast food restaurants. I stick with good old fashion Iranian foods.

We do have a SFC in tehran, I don't know what it stands for though, and it ain't half bad either!
Some of the per-revolution old Kentuckys, (which were renamed after the revolution as "tehran morghe sookhari"...lol) are still working, but are somewhat old-fashioned. BTW I'm gonna try this KFC and get you updated asap.  ;)
