You probably already know about "****.***", but in case not I thought I'd mention that I find it pretty good and have signed up ... I'm not sure where it is based in the US.

Currently there is an article up called "Saving the Motherland", about a large group of US Iranians just having come back from a visit
http://www.****.***/main/2010/sep/serving-motherland

I found it a good, wide ranging and informative article.

Other than that I'm generally getting better informed, including about Islam.

I acquired some basic knowledge years ago and read some of the Koran (in English of course) so I have a starting point, but Id like to be more familiar, so as to keep up better.

It's one of the sites we hate. It's filled with Shahi's, MKO members, Zionists and even westerners pretending to be Iranians. Definitely not a source for anything good about Iran and Iranians.

That's strange. Sure I found a lot of comments to articles presumably posted by the sorts you mention, but nothing in the articles themselves, or not the ones I read - very pro-Iranian.

I'll have a better look around.

The article was good, but read the comments...

I had, but I'm used to trolls venting in sundry sites. I even stuck it out in HuffPost for a few weeks and that's like those comments on steroids. Worth it to get a real flavour of what's going on and, in any case, a few articles were well-presented and interesting - so what the hell if a similar (but hugely larger) mob of Tea Baggers and whatever vent in comments.

I just pick out the relevent ones and ignore the rest, which is easier to do in the much less frenetic ****.***, where I'm trying to broaden my understanding of Iran.

I'd looked around other possibilities, there aren't many to choose from and I still like what I see of the articles and information - I even got my oar in, but not in that set of comments.

BTW I'm not suggesting that IMF should be open house to trolls, etc. of any kind, it'd quickly get inundated by the likes of that, as it turns out, Dutch nerd who won't stay away (seems he's resorted to bragging about being the sick shit he is, in his latest post today).

I don't know much about computers and the internet, beyond what I need to know to operate and secure my own machine and system, so I wouldn't know what to do to run a small site, let alone a large operation like Huff Post, which has hundreds of 'moderators' and maybe hundreds of IT professionals employed ... and ****.*** on whatever smaller scale, much smaller, with maybe 50-odd comments coming in in popular and/or controversial threads. Ive seen them go beyond 3000 on just one topic, in just one of at least a dozen categories of topics running simultaneously in HP.

Interestingly my impression is that the ratio of worthwhile comments to garbage is probably about the same, maybe 1:10. I just sieve through for ones. The rest don't threaten the site, nor the topic, nor me. I really can't see what the problem is - why ****.*** should be hated. It's like throwing out both baby and bathwater?

Yes, as Pasdar said it, we hate that site. You will be misinformed about Isalm and our country if you go with what they say in their site. Saving the motherland from who? I just finished reading the article and the comments. I noticed a picture with a very disturbing comments there. I am very sure that one of our members used that picture as his logo for our forum. I am wondering if there is any correlation?

As I've said, that was a good article but it rarely happens there...

Saving the motherland from who?

Serving the Motherland...

Could be a correlation Jonk.

Don't worry, I'm a big boy now and don't go with what anyone says unless I'm comfortable with it. If you don't know my position on Iran by now, then you never will. If I wasn't comfortable here - and content to not comment about some things/get involved in everything - then this would not be the prime site I visit and the only one I try help defend against attack. I can be trusted to wander abroad.

Anyhow, whilst I'm here: I have found out the location of the fur farm - China. I have found out that PETA - the extremist animal liberation organization is responsible for unauthorized release of the video to YouTube.
I have written to PETA and informed the Swiss of misuse of their material. I have posted on Twitter, etc.. I have joined petawatch.org which monitors PETA excesses. I've been busy, but now I'm back for a while.
