could this be a prototype using the Toulou engine?

It definitely has features of the Ababil and Mohajer, its pretty unique though.

When was this photo taken, it looks fairly recent?

Yes, it is possibly a prototype. Iran has been working on Jet UAVs for several years now. A configuration of one of these attempts can be seen in my attachment.

I found this picture from Sacred Defense Week 2009 -any idea of the type of UAV, it has a Mohajer shape, but the tails don't fit. It also uses wheels which is fairly odd.

Interesting model, bears a slight similarity to the US MQM-107 target drone

No offense...but other than the pods under the wings this Iranian Drone looks very little like the MQM-107..and pretty much every Jet-powered drone in the world has those pods under their wings..Soviet, Indian, American...there has been reports that this Iranian Drone or Ababil Jet is possibly based on the South African Seeker Drone but the Ababil is unique because of its intake on the top of the body as opposed to the underbelly like most jet powered drones..

The only thing different is the engine configuration.

Where did you hear the Ababil Jet was based on a S.A. drone.

Just Rumors across the net...

Ok do you really know what the MQM-107 looks like? It actually looks nothing like this drone...different engine placement, completely different tail design...the only thing alike about them is that they are both jet powered drones...

If you look at early model/predecessor's of the MQM-107, the twin tail on a boom is exactly the same rather then the conventional tail on the other MQM-107A's. The wings are also exactly the same. Like i said, the only difference is the engine configuration.

No model of MQM-107 Had a twin tail like this drone...I think youre think of a different drone..The previous main target drone used by the US was the BQM-34 family of drones which also didnt have a twin boom tail..

Fair enough.

Regardless, i don't think this conversation is going anywhere, so here are some more pictures.

3 good views of the Ababil-T, of the same type shot down by Israel

And 1 good shot of the camera used. Notice, nothing fancy, just a daylight video/still camera

Although confusingly enough, its referred to as the "Ababil-CH" in the last picture, and in the top one, i think i know enough Arabic script to know that it doesn't refer to its sub-designation.

I don't believe that was an Iranian exhibition. It seems to me that particular photo is from Dubai.

You're prolly right but where I found it they claimed it was from an Iranian expo..nonetheless it is the same drone shown in the parade pics...but whether Iran got its hands on the target drone or anti-radiation variant is the real question...The Pic I posted I believe is the Anti-Radiation variant similary in role to Israeli Harpy

It is the anti radiation version of that particular UAV. There would be no point of buying new hardware when you already have better and bigger!

Iran launches production lines for unmanned planes
By NASSER KARIMI, Associated Press Writer Nasser Karimi, Associated Press Writer Mon Feb 8, 5:09 am ET

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran has launched two production lines to build unmanned aircraft with surveillance and attack capabilities, the defense minister announced Monday.

It also announced that Iran would soon deploy a missile air defense system more powerful than the advanced Russian S-300 system Tehran has ordered from Moscow in 2007 but has yet to receive.

The state television quoted Defense Minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi as saying the unmanned aircraft would be able to carry out surveillance as well as offensive tasks with high precision and a long range.

The two types of aircraft, or drones, are named Ra'd (thunder) and Nazir (herald), with the former possessing offensive capabilities.

Iran announced two years ago it had built an unmanned aircraft, but details were only revealed last year when Vahidi said it has a range of more than 600 miles (1,000 kilometers), long enough to reach Israel. It was not clear whether Ra'd or Nazir has such a range.

Iran frequently makes announcements about the strides being made by its military industries, however, it is virtually impossible to independently determine the actual capabilities or combat worthiness of the weapons Iran is producing.

Iran began a military self-sufficiency program in 1992, under which it produces a large range of weapons, including tanks, medium range missiles, jet fighters and torpedoes.

Meanwhile, a senior air force commander, Gen. Heshmatollah Kasiri, told the official IRNA news agency Monday that Iran would "soon" deploy an air defense system with capabilities matching, or superior to, those of the Russian S-300 system.

He did not elaborate, but the S-300 missiles are capable of shooting down aircraft, cruise missiles and ballistic missile warheads at ranges of over 90 miles (145 kilometers) and at altitudes of about 90,000 feet.

Gen. Kasiri said Iran produces its entire air defense needs domestically, but still criticized Russia for not delivering the S-300 missiles for "unacceptable reasons."

Russia signed a 2007 contract to sell the S-300 missile system to Iran, but they have not been delivered yet. The delay has not been explained, but Israel and the United States have strongly objected to the deal.

The S-300 missiles would significantly boost Iran's air defense capability at a time when Israel says it will not rule out taking military action against Iran's nuclear sites. Israel and the West believe that Iran's nuclear program is geared toward acquiring nuclear weapons. Iran denies the charge.
